Based on the definition of this forum category, no. A Tele body is not offset.

Re: Does this guitar belong here?
It DOES belong in the Non-Offset Guitars category, though.

Re: Does this guitar belong here?
Strictly speaking, no.
But things that aren't really offsets pop up in this section from time to time, and nobody really seems to mind if they're cool. The not offset section would be a more natural home for it, but I don't think anyone would be deeply offended if you did post about it here.

I am shallowly offended that you would even think that.Stephen_42 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 3:13 amI don't think anyone would be deeply offended if you did post about it here.

Re: Does this guitar belong here?
Speaking of offensive, can we talk about a tele with a jm or strat headstock?!
I’m all for replacing a tele neck pickup with (checks notes) just about anything, but I feel like it needs to retain its overall shape for my delicate sensibilities. Forearm and/or belly cuts are go, though.
I’m weird in my opinions, I acknowledge this.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

No. And I don't subscribe to the 'offset is a vibe man' mentality that seems to be prolific in more recent circles of guitar players (see: Facebook offset guitar groups full of idiots). Offset is a shape, a measurable angle. A Telecaster is not an offset.

Re: Does this guitar belong here?
So, Jazz Basses are offsets. Why do I see so little here about them? Just because most folks here are interested in guitars? I’ve seen a fair bit about Mustang basses, but, even though I’ve owned one for ages, never really realized was an offset until I came here. But I’d have to think that the Jazz Bass is quite possibly the most popular of all the offset designs.

Most ubiquitous offset bass maybe, but of overall offset designs, I'd disagree. I'd guess that there are more Jazzmaster and Jaguar players than Jazz Bass players. For most popular bass, I'd almost say that it's 50-50 between Jazz Bass and P-Basses (even though I know that P's are not offset).

FYI, I’ve moved this to the non-offset section.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

You think? I’m not sure there are more Jazzmaster or Jaguar players out there than Jazz bass players. The Jazz Bass has been in constant production since it was created, and I can walk into any Guitar Center or other music store, and pull one off the wall. Or walk into any bar, club, etc, and have a solid chance of seeing a bass player playing a Jazz. It’s one of Fenders two main basses. However, the odds of seeing a Jazzmaster or Jaguar out in the wild are significantly lower. I’ve seen one Jag for sale at my local Guitar Center, and my local boutique shop, Wildwood, normally only has a few Jazzmasters and maybe one Jag for sale at any given time. I just don’t think the production numbers are anywhere close to similar. As one of the two main Fender basses, that automatically makes it one of the most popular basses in the world. But the precision bass is the more popular of the two basses.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 9:35 pmMost ubiquitous offset bass maybe, but of overall offset designs, I'd disagree. Re: Does this guitar belong here?
I'm going by what you see being played, not by what is being sold. It could be that you see less JMs and Jags in stores because they sell so fast. And it does to me seem like there may not be as many JMs or Jags made compared to Jazz Basses. All the lives shows and videos I've seen, I see more P-Basses played than Jazz Basses, but JMs and Jags are way more common now than they ever were.

Re: Does this guitar belong here?
The Jazz Bass has been beloved and in steady use since 1962. Players looking for something trendy don't get them, but players of all genres of music looking for something versatile and reliable do. Jaguars and Jazzmasters are still riding a wave of hype that started sometime in the mid-2000s by my reckoning, and that's seen them become the hot choice for a lot of players who'd otherwise get a Stratocaster or something.dave19er wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 3:39 amYou think? They tend to catch the spotlight in a way that Jazz Basses kind of don't because they're so ubiquitous.
