Today is a good day - now poll...what to do??
** SEE POST #7 BELOW FOR AGONISING CONUNDRUM AND POLL REASON**
In early 2017 I sold a bass guitar. It was a Peavey T-40 in black, with a rosewood board and the OG case. It took me a long time to find one but, boy, was that thing a heavy cunt, and the nut was wider than I'd usually like, but sure as shit did it sound like the best thing with less than 4 strings. I instantly regretted selling it (as with many things) and, once a year, have asked by email if the gentleman who bought it from me would consider selling back.
Every year he has politely declined, to which I said "not a problem" followed by a cheeky "I'll ask again next year"
This year. This year it's different. This year he's said yes.
It's not happening for a few weeks while he moves house and sorts things out, but pretty soon, this slab of southern love is coming back to roost...

From that day forward I will be a 60s-style sitting bassist

To be fair, it might finally be time for a wider strap with this. I am 40 now, after all

Re: Today is a good day
Today I have been pondering.
Do I even still want or need this bass? I rarely play bass anyway, and I really rate my MIJ Jaguar Bass - it's a good weight, nice narrow nut, looks cool. The T-40 did sound amazing, but was a fucking beast to have on your shoulders and the nut is pretty wide (wider than I usually like on a bass)
Taking on the T-40 means getting rid of the Jag. I certainly can't justify, or really have space for, 2 basses. I'm going to turn this into a poll. Fuck it, see what the masses say.
The Jag in question...

Why is there no “buy a 3rd bass” option?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Phew, that is really hard to say.
As you missed it so much that you kept asking I'd say take it. Keep both for a while and really compare them in every possible way. Sell the one you like less - but only if the difference is significant. If not, keep both!
You might buy a wider/broader strap in advance. I get a lot of notifications for "zero-gravity" straps lately...
I do enjoy the broad leather (non slipping) strap I have for mine.
The Peavey does look very cool. Being a Jaguar enthusiast I also thought about getting a Jaguar Bass once but then again that would be over the top and for now (and my needs) the Fakenbaker does fine...
But also knowing the pain in the ass of letting something go and missing it so bad that you end up spending more time & money in getting it back than you received for it - so don't make any hasty decisions.

I had a Peavey bass long ago, it was a different model than that one but it was better than any Fender bass I've had since.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

Sounds to me like you like the Jag better...johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:31 amDo I even still want or need this bass? If you like the sound of the T-40 better though... I wonder whether someone like Curtis Novak (or somebody else) could wind you a pair of repro pickups for the Jag? That would require some routing and a new pickguard, but you'd end up with the best of both worlds.
If it were me, though, I'd keep both. But I've always had trouble choosing... Which is why I currently own 5 basses, and am currently GASing for one more

If you have a strong sentimental attachment to the Peavey that’s the best reason to get it back and let the Jag go.
If it were me I would stick with the Jag.
All that said though the great thing about having two basses is you can have flatwounds on one and rounds on the other.

Re: Today is a good day - now poll...what to do??
Imagine yourself in a year or two. Are you going to start e-mailing the Jag buyer yearly in the hopes of getting it back?
Sometimes the grass is always greener, and it's easier to want an instrument back than it is to be happy owning it.
Probably a good call to just live with both for a while and see how you feel then. The reality of the Peavey may not match the nostalgia you felt when it was gone. Or, maybe you'll love it so much you won't care about the weight.
A/Bing them for a while is probably the only way to be sure.
