Because I can't leave anything alone I bought a Callaham trem upgrade kit and holy shit is it worth it. There's a bit more sustain, which is great, but the big thing is the trem bar insert. It's kinda like a staytrem with the insert to keep the bar in place, so I put it where I want it and it doesn't move, but when I do want to move it it moves freely. There's no jiggly metally flopping of the trem bar, it's great. The bar is a little shorter too, in height and length, which is nice.
I actually have the trem set up to float now and it's so fucking smooth. Stays in tune perfectly too. It might be a decent amount of money, but I'd say it's worth it.

Well thank you! I'm not sure how interesting the new pictures will be, but hey, why not. In the last picture you can see how chonky the new trem block is. The strings sit much lower in it too, rather than being sucked up into the top like the stock block.Maggieo wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:33 amI think we need photos of your upgraded and hella cool Strat!!!Jonesie wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 9:59 amBecause I can't leave anything alone I bought a Callaham trem upgrade kit and holy shit is it worth it. Dude gorgeous strat, congratulations Jonesie!
Was the shop in MA? Kinda jealous I didn’t see this one
Am I seeing things wrong or the neck wide on this one? Especially the shot from behind.
Beautiful guitar, that is!
Edit: “ Her body is a wonderwall “, sent straight to greatest hit status haha

A good, heavy block in there is the most important change you can make to a Strat. I have a solid brass one, heavy as can be.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I got it from Downtown Sounds in Northampton, MA, which is a great shop. I got my '63 Ampeg Jet from them last year for a steal.
I don't think the neck is any wider than normal, it's just a normal every day American Standard.
You're all probably sick of seeing pictures of this guitar now, but I took two more on my porch yesterday when the sun looked real nice.

That's just the much less interesting spillover from FVS hiring Ron Thorn.
Here's his California Special, which is far more interesting in every way:
The artist formerly known as mbene085.

The California Special looks like a Cort model. Totally uninspiring.

Dogging Strats for the blues dude stigma.
I'd argue that the "good" vs. "bad" music that has come out from Strats heavily favors the good. [Unlike those 335s: a blues lawyer/dentist staple! ]

I cranked up my amp last night ('63 Ampeg Jet) with the Strat. It sounded too fucking good. As of right now I may like it more than my Jag, which seems criminal.

Re: NGD -- I'm a sellout and got an American Strat.
I find that some days one guitar and amp combo can really sparkle and then two days later it won't have that same magic. I generally like my Jaguar as my #1, but sometimes my Strat just sounds amazing and the same for a few other guitars. Key word: it seems criminal. It is not. The only person that cares about that is you. Good sound is good sound.
I mean... the OSG Police would be funny. Like we'd come in, yank a guitar out of your hands, remove the buzz stop and hand it back. Then there would be one sect that would slap in a stay trem bridge and they'd battle with the original rocking bridge purists.
