suddenly SUPER into Rickenbacker 360's GAS post

Post by panoramic » Tue Jul 19, 2022 5:43 am

I am not usually a mega GAS person anymore but over the last few months I have developed a real URGE to pick up a red Rickenbacker 360 non 12 string. Something about the necks just mystifies the hell out of me, I love them skinny necks sooooo much.

I've played a few and I have loved the necks extensively, the only turn off is the depth between the strings and the body will lead me to breaking a bunch of strings more than likely.

amazing how the proportions of the 24 fret ("modern") vs 21 fret ("vintage") change the overall look of the guitar (and feel, of course).

So much of the Rickenbacker aesthetics are basically little things I didn't notice at first (number of frets / neck pickup placement, headstock shape, inlays, pickups, variations in the red in fireglo) that I later can't unsee. (in short: 80-90s 370s are just super weird and squished looking with a Gumby headstock).

(I just got the "Out of the frying pan" book as a present yesterday, so looking forward to ultimately being unsatisfied with any of them that are more than 12 serial numbers after Harrison's and Petty's guitars.)

Pffft. There aint enough strings on that geetar.

For half a REAL guitar it sure is pretty though... That Ruby Red finish does me just right.

I do like the fact that you had to specify 'non-12-string' though. :D

I prefer the 330, but the 360 is a beautiful guitar nonetheless.
I am also a fan of the skinny necks. I like how they don’t really taper out at all. They’re pretty much the same width all the way down.

Edit: RIC discontinued Ruby Red a few years back, so it may be super hard (and expensive) to score one in Ruby. They also discontinued my favourite colour: Midnight Blue.
Right now they are only available in the classic three finishes, which are Fireglo, Jetglo, and Mapleglo.
Det er mig der holder traeerne sammen.

There is a red 360 on ebay UK right now that I am sooooo tempted to bid on.

I had a 660 a while ago but it was a bit small on me...the 360 size works better on me.

I was scoping that one yesterday. Right now I am watching a a pile on reverb. Chances I buy one in the next 6 months are VERY high.

That is a dangerously handsome guitar.
