Comboluxe body shape: love it?

Post by BTL » Thu May 05, 2022 5:56 pm

Should I keep it in the line or ditch it after I finish up the prototypes?

Honestly I like the shape a lot, but that headstock is not my favorite. Maybe it’s just the black finish and the look of the truss rod cover.

How about with a matching headstock?

This look isn't personally my thing, but it definitely works on the above shape.

I guess I just prefer a plain natural headstock on a bass most of the time.

Interesting! I guess I'm just used to seeing black or matching headstocks on 2+2 and 3+3 designs, so natural wood looks odd to me. It's all what we're used to, right? :)

I'm into it minus the pointy BC Richenbacker headstock.

No offense intended by the way. I love the body shape and overall look, just the headstock, while I get the Ric inspiration, doesn't do a ton for me.

I love all these guitars, the only problem is they're all bolt-on and I don't like bolt-on necks.

Otherwise, amazing.

None taken and understood 100%. I really struggled with each of my headstock shapes and ultimately landed on what I felt was the best looking and most distinctive. That inevitably can be polarizing.

Thank you so much! I'm going through a hardware update so I plan to use renderings to show my current offerings with the updated hardware spec. Set-neck is not something I'm considering at the moment, but I never say never!

For sure. A black headstock and prominent truss rod cover read as metal to me and this is not that kind of body shape in my mind.

I appreciate your perspective, and for what it's worth, there will be minor changes to the headstock. The production model will be zero degree with no truss rod cover and a bar-style string retainer, so these renders need to be updated. Because of all of the positive feedback here and elsewhere, I will be offering the following configurations:

Comboluxe IV Bass - 32" scale
Comboluxe V Bass - 32" scale
Comboluxe VIII Bass - 32" scale
Comboluxe VI Guitar - 25.5" scale
