Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
Hope this hasn't been posted yet. Sorry if so. Have you cats seen Johnny Marr's NINE pickup Stratocaster?

Add it to the list of things Johnny's stolen from the underrated Nigel Tufnel

I just can't fathom finding different uses for each option...

A few others.

Re: Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
This should be in the non-offset section.
It seems a bit excessive to me as well. I mean, I'm okay with two, or even one pickup.
But come on. This guy is a professional musician with a lot of experience and a successful career as a player. I imagine he has the time and knowledge to fuck around with this guitar and see if he gets some interesting sound that he hasn't come across before. It's just a harmless dopey guitar. It's not like it's denying pickups to starving partscaster assemblers.

Re: Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
Has anyone ever though that the people in this article own many guitars & probably use multiple guitars during an average gig?
Or should be running for the hills because the magnetic field on my neck pickup is ruining my toanz?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I'd dink around on it if I ever saw one in person, though it does seem a tad... unnecessary.

Re: Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
This has to be some tongue in cheek genius from Johnny Marr!
Tufnell's guitar had 8 pickups so this Strat has one more. Like "going to 11"

Dubbed the “Spirit Strat”, Marr also took the opportunity to respond to a fan who enquired about its unorthodox pickup pairing, revealing the nine pickups “all feed into each other” to make “one giant one”.

Hahaha, so in series? It must sound like hot garbage.

He just used it for promo purposes. Since that video he hasn't been seen with it again.
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Re: Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
A closer look...
Looks like the hardtail baseplate had to be ground to accommodate the ninth pickup... So on top of terrible sustain because of the huge magnetic pull, the guitar must have pretty limited intonation possibilities.
I'm kinda disappointed they went for Strat pickups and not hot rails style humbuckers though. That would have been 18 coils...

Re: Johnny Marr 9 pickup Stratocaster
I’m just pissed that the pickup screws are slightly misaligned. My top priority would have been to have everything straight.
I DON’T CARE HOW MANY PICKGUARDS YOU HAVE DRILLED. DO IT AGAIN.
