Incoming New Nashville Tuning Guitar Day

Post by marqueemoon » Sun Apr 24, 2022 7:02 pm

I’ve been on the hunt for a cheap acoustic for a dedicated Nashville tuning guitar and finally found one today. It’s a used JB Player JB-36 which my local Guitar Center had tagged at $40. :w00t:

I had low expectations when I took it down to try it for obvious reasons, but it was actually quite good. No jagged fret ends, decent playability, and some warmth and real complexity to the sound.

The intonation is ok. Not really worse than my vintage acoustics, and it has decent tuners and a compensated saddle.

I gotta wait a few weeks to pick it up as it has a hold period in case it’s stolen, so I put down $10 to reserve it :D

Here is a total potato picture.

Anyone have string recommendations or other tips?

Wow! That's hard to beat. Wish I had something useful to tell you, but no. Happy incoming guitar day!
This is an excellent rectangle

D’Addario sells a Nashville set for acoustics I used for a bit, and it didn’t seem to affect the setup on my J-45. I only had them on for a couple of months. Sounded good, felt like D’Addarios. I think GHS sells a set, too, but I’m not sure. I’m an Ernie Ball devotee, and they didn’t have a Nashville set when I was looking.

Cool. I usually do D’Addarios, so I’ll probably give those a shot.

Sweet! I just set this DiPinto Belvedere up in Nashville tuning, I don’t know how it took me so long to “discover” it!

Man, I've been wanting to re-string a guitar with a set of Nashville strings for a while. I'm almost tempted to do that to my Godin 5th Avenue. The idea of having Nashville tuning that works both acoustic and electric is REALLY tempting...

Never tried it on electric, but I keep an old Martin of mine around in Nashville tuning. It can be pretty inspirational.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I've never actually tried the tuning myself, but I love the sounds it can make. I've always thought of doing it with an electric, but I love the idea of having access to both, and in one guitar to boot.

Brought it home yesterday. Even in standard tuning it’s pretty fun. Got some D’Addario Nashville strings on order.

Nashville strings came yesterday. I oiled the board and polished the frets and strung it up.

It sounds so cool. I've basically been playing every song I know to see what sounds good.
