Like Jaguar018 mentioned, I do like them in a Strat... in fact, I 've been meaning to swap mine back in on my next string change...

Re: What is your favorite pickup type and why?
There are so many that I haven't yet tried, but really want to. Of all the guitars I've had, I've enjoyed aspects of every pickup type that I've played. I absolutely live the sounds of P-90s in the bridge position, as it is the quintessential rock or punk sound to my ears.
But if I was gonna put together a new guitar, to be my perfect guitar (or say I was famous and Fender approached me to make a signature model), it would likely be a Tele bridge (single coil) and either a JM neck or P-90 neck pickup.

Re: What is your favorite pickup type and why?
I'm a P-90 guy but I have a mystery on my hands. My main guitar is an SG Classic that the prior owner stuck Lollars in, don't know the type. I hear folks complain about noise but with my guitar, it's pretty quiet and much, much less noisy than one of my Classic Player Jazzmasters with Pure 65s in them. I asked the last owner if they were some sort of humbucker sized P-90s and he said no, and I usually play with some dirt, so the lack of noise surprises me.
When it comes to bass--my main instrument--I can safely say after going through Fenders and Squiers, an Ovation Magnum, Gibson Grabbers and SGs, plus Epiphone Thunderbirds and now a disappointing Jack Casady, the P style pickup is by far the best. It's perfect, you have a P in your bass, you're good, stop worrying and just play.

Got a teisco that I slapped a couple o lipsticks in that I dust off now and again.. Sounds amazing for 60s punkish sounds. Find myself knocking out numerous riffs.. All sounding like bad variations of louie louiehiggsblossom wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:59 amFor some strange reason, because my first electric guitar was a Danelectro, the lipstick pickups are „the sound of an electric guitar“ to my ears. Sounds like I‘m a teenager again. It’s an emotional thing I guess.
Hooked on strat pickups for some time.. Digging "Alan Entwistle AS57"

Right now I'm really in love with the Lollar P90s in my Eastman hollowbody and wondering about a set in a Jazzmaster.

Strewth, this is a hard one! So many awesome pickups….
With a gun to my head I would vote for a Strat neck or middle, and Telecaster bridge.

Exactly. I am not a particularly accomplished guitarist, I don't play melodies. But for what I do - punk riffing - lipstick pickups are spot on!

If you'd asked me a couple of weeks ago I'd have said Jazzmasters - but I finally got round to installing these vintage Hofner H513s and they are incredible...
Totally understand now why Jamie Hince is obsessed with them.
