2022 Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Custom Telecaster

Post by vistavision » Wed Jan 26, 2022 5:50 pm

Finally, a regular production baritone from Squier. It's been a while. A Custom Telecaster with 27" scale, vintage 3-saddle bridge, and double-bound body. A normal Tele with a double-bound body is, for me anyways, preferable over the P90 Paranormal Cabronita Baritone. And it won't disappear when I finally get the funds to buy one.
Anderton's has all the specs:

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Thank god, finally a production Baritone that won't be unobtanium in a couple of months.

I’ve wanted a regular-old-tele baritone for a lonnng time. I have the cabronita baritone (is it even a cabronita if it doesn’t have filtertrons?) — I’ve modded it extensively just to get it somewhere I LIKE, and I just haven’t bonded with the thing. This will be a day one purchase for me.

How does it balance with the baritone neck?

looks great. i’ve wanted a telecaster baritone FOREVER, but I ended up throwing a b-stock subsonic strat neck on an affinity JM body. this has me want to go tele. agreed on the binding as well.

Anyone got one of these yet? I'm trying to figure out if the neck is basically the same scale as the Subsonic baritone conversion neck, so I could use the body for a standard Tele and swap the baritone neck over to my Tele Thinline. (Don't ask why.... )

i don’t know for sure, but i imagine it HAS to be. the cabronita baritone definitely was. when thrown in photoshop everything lines up the same.

edit: i was wrong. i had the wrong neck in photoshop doing my overlay and measurements.

I ended up with a baritone tele and it’s the perfect platform for the sounds I want. 69 thin line would add some good looks, and a 72 with proper wide ranges would just be brutal

Actually, I went to a local store and the guy there measured the distance from the neck pocket to the bridge on the baritone and a standard Tele and there was something like a 1/2" difference, so the conclusion was that it wasn't a conversion neck after all. But if anyone has experience that says otherwise I'd love to hear about it.

you’re correct, i did not have the subsonic neck imported when I was doing the photoshop overlay and measurement.

I tried one of these out today at the MusicStore and HOT DAMN that was about the only guitar that looked, played and sounded the part right away. Well that one and the incredibly nice JV reissue 60s Stratocaster (oh maaan).

EVERYTHING else in this store is SO INCREDIBLY BADLY set up like shit, you won't believe it. The Joan Jett Epi i was looking forward to play so much was actually DEAD in the upper 7 first frets :fp:

But the Baritone Tele, that one was pure :-*
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

So then it is impossible to pull the neck off a Classic Vibe Baritone and put it on a "regular" Squier Telecaster and have it intonate?

Because this random Reverb seller seems insistent that it would work:

This is easy to solve with your eyes and a little math(s).

Looking at the guitar first and foremost you can see it's a 22 fret neck instead of the classic 21. This suggests the possibility of the scale being literally an extra fret slapped on down by the nut. Fender are lazy, we know this, this is the path of least resistance for them. Lets take that knowledge and move forward...

Normal Tele scale 25.5" (647.7mm)
Distance required to go down an extra fret is 38.49mm or, in USA-A-OK-eagle-freedom units... 1.515 inches (lets round that down to 1.5"). I used this handy fret calculator to be sure. Feel free to check my numbers.

25.5+1.5 = 27"

It's a conversion neck.

My guess is he measured a Tele with a 22 fret neck by mistake.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?
