NGD - Danelectro Baritone
I just picked this up this morning. A guy had it listed on Facebook marketplace for $450 and that included a hardshell case. So I did the sensible thing and sold a few pedals so I could snag it. Initial impressions are great, it sounds great, is fun to play and is pretty inspiring. I already threw on a compressor and played some Morricone style stuff, along with "Rock Lobster". I have some new heavier strings on way (14 - 64 instead of 13 - 62) and I'm hoping that'll make it the tiniest smidge tighter sounding.
My wife likes the guitar because it's sparkly. Please ignore the ugly-ass strap, a better matching strap will be ordered shortly.

Cool. Looks like a great deal. And I'm reminded I love Danelectro's 6 in-line headstocks. Plus sparkle!
I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

I really like the finish! It looks great! I have an old Korean reissue and really like it. After having a 28" scale Jerry Jones for years, it took a bit to get used to the different feel of the longer scale of the Dano. Now that I have, it's just fine. I originally thought that I might change the pickups but I've really come to like it as it is. I have it strung with D'Addario Chrome Flats.

Re: NGD - Danelectro Baritone
that looks fantastic! what is the scale length, and what do you tune it to?
i still have the Jag Baritone, which is 28.5 inches. i string it with 14s and tune it B-B ... great tension and twang. baritones basically rule, everyone should have one

I bought the Black Metal Flake version, with the regular Dano headstock a few months back, and I really like it.
Had to do a small setup on it, but nothing that couldn't be done with a screwdriver and one of the hex keys that came with it.

The scales are 29.75” I think. I keep mine B-B. For strings, I buy the D’Addario Chrome Flats 7 string pack. I toss the high E and use the rest which are all wound except for (what becomes) the plain high B. They are .015-.065.

That's correct, 29.75" and I'm tuning it B-B. I wanted to do Bass VI tuning, but apparently that size string wouldn't fit without some decent modifications to the bridge and tuners, so I'll hold off for now at least.i love sharin foo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:43 amThe scales are 29.75” I think. Re: NGD - Danelectro Baritone
At one point I had another one that was strung a bit heavier and tuned E to E. While it could do it just fine, I felt like it didn’t sound or feel quite right. For me, B to B was the way to go. That one had done kind of short scale bass stings, so the ends were thinner gauge to fit through the tuners. The nut slots were opened up a little though. The six saddle bridge would probably be okay, but my wooden one didn’t intonate too well.Jonesie wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 7:13 amThat's correct, 29.75" and I'm tuning it B-B. Love that 6-in-line Dano headstock Jonesie, congrats on the NGD. Also, FWIW, I don't hate that strap with the silver sparkle. I feel like the cream and orange work with it pretty well.

Re: NGD - Danelectro Baritone
E to E, one octave below standard, is my tuning of choice for a Dano baritone.
Mine is an old one. It’s one of my favorite instruments ever

This thread isn’t helping my bari-GAS.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.
