NBD : Squier Jazz

Post by Scout » Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:31 am

Alright, someone needs to explain this to me. This bass appeared on CL this past week for dirt cheap and since we have a drummer coming over , someday soon hopefully, to jam I figured a new bass was in order since I traded my others in to get some keyboard/ synth gear.

This thing is awesome, the action was about 1/4” at the 12th fret but came right down as soon as I tightened the truss rod.
It has flatwounds on it and plays great, why in the world was it $125 with a gigbag? And its Shoreline Gold!

Do people really hate Squiers that much?

Maybe I just chalk it up to good karma.

If it was some guitar guy whose opinion of Squier was formed by the mid-00's then he probably just thought it was Asian-made crap. We all know better. Congrats! Shoreline Gold is a big win, too.

Just so you know, Jazz Basses are offset. This could've gone into the Offset New & Reissue forum.

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Nice! I never played alot of bass but always had one around. I had a Danelectro and a Gibson but never
a Fender style. I just can't believe how nice this one is.

I have a VM JB myself and it’s really solid. Only complaint is that the stock electronics bordered on non-functional. Each volume never seemed to totally roll off each pickup and I swear the tone pot didn’t have any audible effects. The pot action in general was not great. An electronics upgrade brought the pickups to life though I’ve been considering some J-45’s.
