Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
All joking aside it is a 2016 non-weight relieved, Sweetwater exclusive, Gibson Les Paul Traditional.
I have swapped out the pickups for Sanford Magnetics “Model 22” PAFs, Faber hardware (with brass saddles), VIP brand pots, and a bone nut.
It’s not some collector’s piece. I dropped it off at the luthier today and it’s not going to cost much to have the top refinished to shell pink so if I ever want to take it back to “Boomer Burst” I can.
I have a gold top and an “ice tea” burst already… also my Thunderbird bass and Firebird are sunburst too.
I am kinda done with burst finish. How many PINK Les Pauls do you see?

I'll only co-sign this if you agree to install coverless white HBs. Otherwise, that's a no for me, dawg
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
i'm gonna say it. if you like the guitar but hate how it looks, why not refin it? this is going to sound nasty but one of the many reasons i can't get into gibsons is the fucking colours. there's like 300 different bursts and they all look the same. want a colour that's not a burst, black, white or some translucent colour and you're usually flat out of luck.

Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
That's probably because Fender cornered the IP for car-colored guitars, and Gibson didn't want to go there. Branding and all that sort of shit.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 10:05 ami'm gonna say it. if you like the guitar but hate how it looks, why not refin it? this is going to sound nasty but one of the many reasons i can't get into gibsons is the fucking colours. there's like 300 different bursts and they all look the same. want a colour that's not a burst, black, white or some translucent colour and you're usually flat out of luck.
Pellham blue is pretty great, but I'm meh about most Gibson colors. Especially when they try yo do MOPAR stuff; it's just gaudy.

Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
There are many les Pauls out there with shitty sunbursts. This particular one is pretty nice, maybe too nice to refinish.
I don't have a LP atm, but when I get one, I hope it looks as nice as this one.

Arright- middle path, here: Refin it with a vinyl wrap.
Removable if you ever want to return it to stock - it'll actually protect the underlying finish.
LP's have a nice sharp-ish edge to trim to- would look nice and clean.
Probably top out at $200 max at a pro place - it's not a lot of material, just a lot of stuff in the way.
There are DIY kits for about $30 if you're competent/confident/adventurous.

Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
Ooohhh double whites, this… this I like. I know the bobbins in those pickups that are on it now are black.seenoevil II wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 9:18 amI'll only co-sign this if you agree to install coverless white HBs. Otherwise, that's a no for me, dawg
Nate Sanford of Sanford Magnetics made the pickups, and they are nothing short of amazing so if I did replace them I would need to put them in another guitar. Also, apparently Sanford Magnetics is out of business now so sadly I can’t get him to make me double whites :-(
I never had an issue with how this guitar sounded or played, it sounds and plays amazing I am just bored of bursts. I got into bursts when I was chasing burst tone, specifically Peter Green and Billy Gibbons tone and I while I was chasing this mythical tone I was spending tons of money to get there…
Then one day I went to Emerald City guitars and played a real ‘58 gold top and real ‘59 burst… I realised something. My guitars played and sounded just as good as those two collectors guitars, the only difference is those golden age Les Pauls were played in.
So I stopped chasing tone and started chasing my own sound.
I will get it back from the luthier this time next month and show y’all the completed pink top guitar.
The back has this dark cherry finish already, it’s staying, only the top is changing

Re: Don’t it make your plain top pink
I think that's a beauty sunburst, but any guitar that you think looks cool and makes you feel like you look cool playing it is going to be a better guitar for you. YEAH PINK!
Once its refinished, if you play it vigorously and wear through the pink to reveal the burst underneath... million dollar look. For real.
I co-sign on the white humbuckers, too. And... umm... white or zebra L500s (with the maroon trim) would be my choice. Just sayin'

Thank you. It’s only a 1960 model, I hear the 1959 ones are worth the most.
Thinking about scalloping the frets and and putting on a Floyd Rose too.
Why the hell not.
You can always get a new neck and fill in the trem cavity if you dont like it.

Not bad! I'd be ditching the gold hardware though for nickel replacements.luau wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 6:37 amMaybe with a nice dark back. With a red back.. ooph.
I like the old Custom Lite with the pinkish finish and would probably buy one if I found one for a reasonable price.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 5:03 pmThat's not broken! Pink and black go together VERY well. Like a guitar version of the Pink Ladies from Grease
