If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: Show Yer Straps
Very tastefully faded, looks great with the plastics, and the strap helps it show

Well, I ordered one. Will report back.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 1:56 pmAnyone have a good recommendation for a fixed length skinny strap? Looks like Original Fuzz isn't doing one anymore. This seems like the closest to what I'm looking for that I've found so far.

Re: Show Yer Straps
This seems as good a place as any to ask the hive-mind:
Do any of you have issues with the tabs on your straps squeaking when rubbing against the guitar? Especially on my old guitars, where the pickups are slightly microphonic, the inside of the tabs cause audible squeaking noises through the amp. I've had to resort to gluing felt to the underside of all my Couch straps to stop this happening. I tried lightly sanding down the inside of the tabs first (no joy), then a little SuperLube on them (worked great but only for a few days, and leaves a weird silicone residue). Felt was the last option which works great but is a pain to do and also increases the thickness of the tabs making casual removal a ballache.
Weirdly, my very old Couch ones never had this issue (from new).

Re: Show Yer Straps
Never heard of anything like that, but I've also never owned a vintage guitar, or had any pickups that were badly microphonic. Have you tried the trick with the rubber washers, to keep the strap kinda locked in? That's what I use. Years, someone discovered that you could use the seal from a Grolsch beer bottle, but I use hardware store bibb gadgets (#35 I think), since they match the black leather tabs and don't stick out so bad as red rubber. Also they are $0.35, so you can grab a bunch of them for multiple guitars for like $5.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 2:56 amThis seems as good a place as any to ask the hive-mind:

Re: Show Yer Straps
Yeah, I've been using Grolsch 'straplocks' for decades but it's on the inside of the tabs that the vinyl/body squeaking is occurring. It's not just limited to the Nitro finished guitars either which is what I thought could be the culprit. Maybe Couch have changed the vinyl type they use. I could just try another strap company but a) I love the Couch ones and have waaaayyy too many £$£ invested in them and b) they don't use leather which appeases my morals.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:08 am

Cool! So, in that case, what about sandwiching the strap tab between 2 of the gaskets? Make it tighter and maybe the rubber rubbing against the body wouldn't squeak as bad. Or, with that mindset, a small piece of some other kind of material...johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:16 amYeah, I've been using Grolsch 'straplocks' for decades but it's on the inside of the tabs that the vinyl/body squeaking is occurring. Re: Show Yer Straps
At the moment I've done the latter and glued the felt across the entre back of the tabs. It's eliminated the issue but at the cost of the tab being so much thicker. It'll do for now. I was mostly wondering if it was a common issue with faux leather strap ends or something. Everyone I've asked so far has responded with a similar "you're on your own there" expressionShadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 6:16 am

I have just messaged Couch and asked if they've changed something. I'd rather not switch brand as I've always liked their straps - they're vegan friendly, comfy as hell and super durable. Plus, I've probably got about $700 invested in them so far hahaha

Re: Show Yer Straps
I bought one of the souldier wilco loft straps recently and dig it. They take cool old belts and transform them into straps.

It's a bummer that you had to resort to that, but at least it's working. Hopefully they will email you back with some information that's helpful.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:13 amAt the moment I've done the latter and glued the felt across the entre back of the tabs. I know what you mean. I'm open to trying other brands, but most of mine are Souldier, and I really like their stuff.
