Greco 921 on the way!
I had a Greco 921 back in the 90's that I bought for $100, played for about a year and sold because I couldn't get past the "cheap Japanese guitar" stigma, despite it playing like a dream and having some amazing single coil pickups that sound like a cross between a gold foil and a strat. It has haunted me ever since. I've been on and off searching for them online and asking prices have tended to be in the $600 range, which is a little too rich for my blood. I found one that was closer to $500 and when they dropped the price, I sent an offer for $450, shipped. The accepted and I should have it by Friday.
they have a rosewood laminate hollow bodies- this one needs a little work, but I've been finishing guitars as a side hustle, so it shouldn't be too much to remedy. I'm super stoked!

Wow! That looks like a really fun guitar. I’m surprised an import of this vintage would use real rosewood for the body. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rosewood hollow body electric before period.

Re: Greco 921 on the way!
The guitar arrived Friday, but I didn’t get a chance to unbox it until this morning, as I was down the shore all weekend. I plugged it in when I got home from work and it’s glorious! The pickups are full bodied and surprisingly loud; my gold foil analogy was pretty spot on- they don’t really sound like anything else I can think of. They’re quite warm sounding, although a little microphonic, but in a good way and surprisingly quiet, with very little hum, even though they’re not RWRP. On the not so great side, the truss rod is fully tightened, but there’s a little too much relief in it, but the bowing is quite slight. That’s a shame, because I would have liked to put on heavier strings, but I can live with what’s on there, or perhaps I’ll put a few washers behind the nut and see if I can get a little more range. The neck is indeed quite narrow, I haven’t measured it, but it’s at least 2-1/8” at the heel. The strings, therefore, are a little cramped for my size 12 gloved hands, and the 54 year old frets have seen a lot of wear, but remain playable, with not enough meat for a level and recrown. Also, the radius seems pretty tight- I didn’t get out my gauges to verify, but strings did fret out slightly under bending.
All told though, this guitar is in remarkable shape of its age and what I paid for it and I look forward to doing a proper demo, later this week.
