Help ID this old Hollowbody
Hey all,
My wife’s grandfather was apparently a great musician. But unfortunately, he passed before she ever got to meet him. Musicianship skipped the generation of her parents, but my wife rekindled the musicianship flame of her family.
She has this photo and he is pictured with what looks like some type of cherry or tobacco burst hollowbody to the far right. Picture is probably mid 70s.
Anyone have any idea on what this could be?

it's really hard to tell from the blurry picture, but it looks a lot like a 67 Greco 920 or 950, possibly a Teisco Telestar, which had a similar configuration, although in the picture, it looks like cat-eye sound holes, which neither of the aforementioned guitars had.

I think we're looking at a bass here. Maybe a Shaftesbury-like instrument?

Re: Help ID this old Hollowbody
looks a lot like a Kustom k200, but i don't think that's it.
the control area doesn't quite look the same, and i think the body has sharper lines, like a more traditional hollowbody.
i'm sure i've seen what it actual is before, but i can't think of it right now– i think Lost in Autumn is probably right about it being japanese.

There’s an old Kingston model that looks like that, but I don’t see any pictures on the googles at the moment.

bingo. the bass proportions are just a bit off. it's interesting that they made an entirely new body shape for the bass version, i feel like that didn't really happen back then, especially with cheaper brands.

Beats me, but I always tell Mrs. Larry (who is a lot younger than me) that in the 70's, everything was brown and other earth tones and there weren't any green or blue or anything.
And this picture is exactly what I'm talking about.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I have one of these with a different bridge. I will assume at some point they decided to put the neck pickup in without a slant. IDK if the brand is the same, but I'm 99% sure the guitar in the photo is a Kingston or a similar model with a different brand.

The first photo is deceiving. But another angle the slant is there.

Haha. I know what you’re saying. I wasn’t alive back in the 70s, but in every picture it looks like this. Brown office wall paneling everywhere. Then again, film of this era does have a more earthy tone to it which likely exacerbates our perspective

Well... Autumn Gold and Avocado Green were pretty common
