I don't know much about gibson guitars even though they DO appeal to me. I also have never owned the electric xii nor have i picked one up in my hands (this is something we have not been able to do where i am from due to the pandemic .... yes as of now you STILL CANNOT go into store and try something out). i would consider this purchase a lot of money so i want to go into it with some degree of knowledge into what i am getting.
talking about guitars with other guitar people is kinda the point of these forums LOL.

True story: Before I knew much about guitars or music (or life) in general, I thought Les Paul was the name of a city, like St. Paul, Minnesota...

Fender XII is a great thing to have but a bit more specific in use , I think you knew that.
Les Paul’s are more versatile, especially if you can split the humbuckers .
I have both and still pick up a Jazzmaster or Strat more often than not.
The Fender may retain a bit more value or not , hard to say. Have fun either way.

Well, before this turns into a bitter and personal fight, I think that any guitar player should spend some time with a Les Paul, and if someone is new to Gibson then that's a no-brainer also.
My vote on this was simply out of the two, which was a nicer guitar.

i have pretty much eliminated the les paul from the running based on the advise here, so it definitely helped out.
