Re: To Coronado or Not To Coronado...
Not for the faint of heart... but you could always find an inexpensive reissue and go custom...
I matched the headstock, upgraded tuners, had it routed for JM pickups, trem/Staytrem bridge, Jag mute, new pickguard, etc.; and it's one of my favourite guitars. Plays great, sounds great and it's pretty unique. The centre block in the RI body defeats unwanted feedback, but it still absolutely lights up(!!) in the best way, when you want it to.

Yes, they can be all over the place. I played one that sounded cheap and thin. But… I currently own one that I got on a trade, and I doubt I will ever let it go. I’ve had it for about 10 years now.
Mine has double pickups and no trem. They are the chrome pickups and has a beautiful 60s jazz master-like neck. It sounds amazing unplugged as well. It’s a comfy go to guitar that I use at home, practicing or recording. I doubt I would play it live. It feeds back and falls apart at loud volume. I highly recommend.

I played a red '66 one. Underwhelming to be honest. Just didn't feel particularly special...

Rebooting this thread just over a year later as I've bought one, that's a little thrashed and modified (access panel in back) - I'm sure some of you have seen this for sale. Took advantage of a slight dip in the Yen and made an offer as it had sat on Reverb a while. A total dice-roll. I'm hoping it'll land towards the end of this week.

Oooooh super nice !!
I love it very much. (I have one too, and it's a green also).
Coronados are such great guitars. Mine gives me much joy to play it, to look at it and to listen to it (it's a Coro I, with only the neck pickup...which on mine is a '75 strat neck).
Nice score Johnny !!

Noice
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

That's a heck of a patina. Hope you get on with the pickups!

Indeed, it's a wonderful colour/wear pattern going on.
I've heard the pickups can be, erm, 'divisive'. I'm certain they'll be microphonic as hell but I'm playing a lot of jangly chord-based songs at the moment and I'm kinda hoping this gives a different texture when recording and playing at home. I keep buying guitars that kinda sound like each other for the most part and not venturing out into more left-field sounds.
Plus, I've always liked what the dude from The Dandy Warhols got out of them

Oh crap, you chose a freakin' nice color... a bit Gretschy in a way.
Not a big fan of their bursts, CAR, blue or that weird tinted Wildwood vomit finish...
But this one and and the Antigua are the coolest finish for this model imo.
Congrats!

Oof, can't go wrong with that! Lovely guitar.
