Maybe it'd help to adjust the saddle screws so they're all "flat" and can move closer together, if you know what I mean... They look a bit tilted

It was a crazy find for sure. I can't believe they priced it so low. I know the back is rough and it isn't in mint condition or anything, but that is way under priced. Only thing I can think of is they didn't know what it was? Maybe the person who pawned it didn't either? Could have inherited it. Maybe they were like me and tried to use the online serial code and came up empty. I only figured it out by spending more time looking. (And taking it apart to confirm.) I guess there are deals still out there.

Also oddly enough, I wouldn't have even seen this if my friend hadn't asked me and my wife to go to the downtown farmers market with her. Not my thing, but I saw the pawn shop when we arrived and decided to take a look. When I got it, I instantly figured it was US because of the plate serial and decal over the finish, but I figured they would have the price jacked up. When they said something around $600 but they have it 35% off I was shocked. The guy even seemed apologetic for the price. "Yeah it has some rough wear on the back, but it does come with a hard case." Couldn't pass it up. I figured if it turned out to be fake, I would just return it the same day.

When I squeeze the saddles together, both E strings are just sitting on the fret edge before it rounds off the side. I think the more narrow spacing will help even though I totally agree that the height setup was all over the place with them. Probably due to it being hardtailed. I will get it swapped and floating again in no time.

The new bridge made a big difference in how the strings line up with the neck. I also did a little sanding on the low E side so I could angle it a tad more to that side and it is looking good.

Today I installed a loaded Fender tort guard with 500k pots and Hot Rails. I like the look a lot and the SOUND a lot. I did a demo both ways. I am sure there are people who liked the stock pickups, but I personally like the Rails more.

Oh I also tightened the truss rod a 1/4 turn. The neck had a bit too much relief. The upper frets were buzzing a bit. Much better now. (Oh and the saddles are all flat instead of tilty.) Installed dual design strap locks as well.

Boy is that ever a nice piece. I've always wanted to find a birth year guitar that I liked. I was born in '86 and didn't realize there were American reissues from that year. Plenty of MIJs from that era, but they also aren't usually dated accurately in listings, just placed in a range of dates by serial #.

I kinda like the stock pickups more, but the rails are definitely more "HNB!"

Thanks! You are probably right about the sound. I do have a sort of favorite tone when it comes to pickups whether they are single coil or humbuckers. I tend to like alnico 5 or ceramics usually.

Color list of what these came in would say this is turquoise.

In '86, the closest color would be Lake Placid Blue. The Ocean Turquoise wasn't offered on the AVRI 62s until a few years later.

Great score- the 86's are, IIRC, the first year of Corona vintage reissues. Fender didn't call them AVRI back then, just VRIs. So, your LPB Strat is a cousin of my '83 '62RI; Blackstrat, a '57RI from '82, and the '52Tele RI that I sold back in '85. Welcome to the family!
