NGD 1986 VRI Stratocaster

Post by HNB » Sat May 08, 2021 9:44 am

I tried online decoders and it isn't coming up with results. Neck plate number is V with 6 digits. Decal is on the finish. Turquoise color. :) Ideas? I will disassemble when home.

Pictures. I haven't played it yet or taken it apart. Just got home and having a late breakfast. :D

I need to reseat the neck. It is a little tilted causing the high e to be off the last frets. Anyone off hand know of a bridge I could swap to with a more narrow string spacing?

This is so cool! It has checking all over the neck and body.

A modern- rather than vintage-spacing bridge will be a little narrower, and you have many many options for that -- Wilkinson has some great value stuff that's affordable and quality, Hipshot and Gotoh are pricier but super nice, and on the high end you have stuff like Callaham, the Floyd Rose Rail Tail, and the SuperVee units -- the latter two aren't super traditional, but they work really well for what they do.

Gut shots. Looks like they used wood to hardtail it. I took that out and put the cover back on. The finish is brighter under the plastic cover and neck plate. The exposed wood looks like ash to me.

Neck heel says 12-18-86 in pencil. Shouldn't this be stamped, or is pencil date ok?

Neck pocket looks like it says 12-83 or 87 in marker?

The pickguard has a metal shield, CTS pots, and cloth wire pickups. I don't know pot codes, but I took pictures for the experts here. :D Not sure of that orange drop cap is stock or replaced.

Under the guard color difference. Maybe this is Lake Placid Blue?

It really needs a more narrow spaced bridge. This string spacing is too wide...

Looking like I would want American Vintage narrow spacing?

Ordered a highway one bridge. It has vintage mounting hole spacing but narrow 2 1/16" string spacing. The American Special tremolo is like that also, but quite a bit more in price. The highway one has a big block. I am sure it will be awesome. :D

Color list of what these came in would say this is turquoise. :)
