I've been getting increasingly itchy for an Epiphone Crestwood Custom in white.

They’re really great.

Yes definitely!! It’s got a really nice full neck that gets fairly substantial up/past the 12th. Fit and finish are much nicer than I would expect (esp on what I paid). Mini hums are punchy and responsive- single coil but silent vibes. Trem is fun for small wiggles, def can’t do the big dives but that could be because of setup. Action is ridiculously low on mine and neck is straight as an arrow. Oh and mine weighs like 6.5 lbs.

I hear a lot of these are setup like absolute junk from the factory, luckily I bought mine used and it was cleaned up. I really like these guitars for- epi knocked it out of the park! I only wish mine was the white one!!

Currently fixated on getting something in the ES-335 realm - really like the Ibanez Artcore stuff but also want a Classic Vibe Starcaster in Walnut so I'd have a proper offset six-string. Also like the look of the Epiphone Riviera with those mini-humbuckers, though not loving the tailpiece. Don't really have the space/need for another electric guitar right now - would be better off getting a steel string acoustic and/or a Precision Bass with flats.

My take on the ES-335 realm would be a Triny Lopez standard with mini humbuckers. Unfortunately the prices for these guitars are way out of my price range atm so hopping for a Epiphone version of said guitar. I have only heard positive reviews for the new Epiphone Rivieras, the royal tan model looks gorgeous imo.

Apologies I haven’t read the whole thread, but I’m wondering what years of the Coronado are considered good or best.
Are the 69’s any good or is that too deep into CBS decrepitude?
Thanks!

I played an 1959 Jazzmaster today. Very dangerous decision. Magnificent guitar. Sure, I felt the bridge pickup was a little bright but otherwise I’m not sure what criticism one could level at the guitar itself. While I know I’ll never be able to afford an actual vintage one, an AVRI just shot right up my gas list.

As it turns out, I traded away both my Gibson and Epiphone LPs towards a '64 Jag, and I don't miss them.

My latest obsession is this modded '51 Pawn Shop Special:

As I am the original OP lusting after the LPB Coronado, I needed to post that I scratched a different guitar obsession that has been brewing for decades.

Seeing as how a vintage Coronado is not budget-friendly at this time, the reissue of a classic (in my mind anyway) model from the 60s really grabbed me.

As an *ahem* older gentleman, my early childhood years had this image burned into my cranium:

Image

Seeing Elvis holding Wrecking Crew legend Al Casey's cherry red Hagstrom instilled a love for ES-style guitars with 6-in-line tuners that has remained unabated (re: the Coronado) to this day.

Last year, Hagstrom reissued the Deluxe 67 Viking (the originals are hard to find in decent shape for a decent price — there weren't many produced with the deluxe appointments). Sure, it's manufactured in Asia (not Sweden) but it looked so gorgeous that I just had to have it!

Though I love the original red finish, I had two reservations about ordering the red version:

A). It's so closely linked to Elvis it's almost a 'tribute' guitar... and though I like Elvis well enough, I wanted to avoid the connection.
B). I already have an original USA-made late-sixties Harmony H72V that's reddish (oxblood?)

So here's my new Hagstrom 67 Viking in black:

Here she is next to the aforementioned Harmony:

The Viking is very well made, with pretty sweet-sounding mini hum buckers that split into single coils via push-pull knobs. And it may be gaudy to some, but I love all the gold. :?

Not saying that I've given up on the Coronado, but this should hold me over for a while. :) Maybe? :-/

Chicago Music Exchange has a used Custom Shop Trini reissue in Dark Brunswick Blue Sparkle that has given me the night sweats! :? :(

Wow!
Now this is a good looking couple!
I had one of the regular Vikings for a while and always liked it - also I toyed with the thought of getting one of these - but funnily the gold was one of the things that kept me from doing so.

My obsession of getting a blue Danelectro Dead on 67 that I had for years has been successful lately. And now that I‘m happy otherwise I decided to NEED the Black Thinline Jaguar as well! :fp:

But maybe I can transform this idea into building a full scale Jag/Rickenbacker mashup with a cateye f-hole using the Coronado II neck that I still have - as my whole obsession with Thinline (Jaguars) originated from the very Ricky-looking Duesenberg Doublecat back in 2014…

A Jagenbacker is something I need to see!

There is Deed_Poll's Rickenjagger 3000 - but that's not how I'd do it... My upper horn would somehow lean towards the 481/4001 design but a bit smaller - and the bottom more Jag-ish - top bound would be the plan.

Also you just gave me an idea... I might call it: "The mighty Jag-Bacca" (Chewbacca) - and the Block inlays somehow even resembles Chewie's bandolier.

Let's see how/when I'll be able to build this.
