Factory Issue on California Series Tele

Post by Beebe » Thu Apr 29, 2021 10:17 am

Has anyone seen something like this on an US Fender before? It looks like the cable channel for the neck pickup was drilled too high... Mad interference with control plate screw! I think I'm going to fill this and drill another smaller hole below where the screw can reach.

Cut the screw to size with a dremel.

That is a solid idea. I have had that issue with pickup or pickguard mounting screws being right above a pickup cable hole. It is kinda shitty but it happens sometimes.

The screw hole is stripped because there wasn't a lot of wood to grab. The ole toothpick trick wouldn't work because the toothpicks just fell through and popped out in the control chamber. With approval from the owner, I plugged the tunnel hole with a dowel and the screw hole with toothpicks and filled the space around them with wood glue. There is plenty of room to drill a wire tunnel hole lower, so that's my plan. I'll be able to drill the full screw depth and clear the tunnel as well.
