NGD: Shyboy Telecaster
I ordered this guitar from Brad, at Shyboy Guitars in Toronto.
The picture isn't very good, but it's a white blonde with a lightweight ash body, you can see the wood grain if you look carefully, I wanted it to be subtle. I told Brad I wanted it to weigh around 7 pounds, and it weighs about 7 pounds! 9.5 neck radius, with a big neck and pickupwizard pups. I don't know the exact specs of the pickups, but I wanted a guitar that could sound jazzy on the neck pup and do rockabilly on the bridge pup. I also requested an ashtray bridge that would allow me to either top load the strings, or have them through the body, in traditional tele style.
Brad delivered! This is a very good instrument, and it cost me less than a decent US made Fender Telecaster, and it was made to my specs. I highly recommend Brad's services.

nice. I like the look of their guitars. I remember seeing a blonde shyboy jazzmaster a while back that was absolutely gorgeous.

Yeah! Brad doesn't do fancy-schmancy stuff, but the stuff he does, he does it well.

Nice one. Lighter body and a big ol' neck is my go-to formulae for a great Tele. Looks dynamite too - I'm really digging the whiteguard look more these days.

So classy and understated. How did you string it up in the end? Top load or string thru?

Top load, of course! I'm going to go string through next time. I may even (gasp!) go really wild and mix it up, you know, half and half! Dangerous shit!

I’ve always been one of those string-thru people, but I have a top loader bridge I’m thinking about putting on a guitar. What should I expect from a top loader compared to a string thru?Maggieo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:53 amTop loaders FTW!!Cornelius Plum wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 2:13 pmTop load, of course! In my experience, top loaders are easier to string.
I don't hear much of a difference. The strings may feel a bit less stiff, but it's subtle and it might be my mind playing tricks on me.

I know Creston is pretty passionate about never making string thru (or 5 string basses)... and I’m pretty sure he knows more than I do.Maggieo wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 2:19 pmI think most of it is placebo effect, too. Creston Lea's FAQs are a hoot! My Hahn Model C is top loaded and it feels slinkier and sounds more "rubbery."garyptaszek wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 12:43 pmI know Creston is pretty passionate about never making string thru (or 5 string basses)... and I’m pretty sure he knows more than I do.Maggieo wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 2:19 pmI think most of it is placebo effect, too.
