Bought my first guitar... again.

Post by dezb1 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:31 pm

Seeing as holidays are cancelled this year I've bought myself a new guitar project - one of these 'Satellite' Woolworths specials was the first guitar I ever owned, MIJ, plywood, bolt on neck. I remember it being an ok instrument, but I was far from an ok player. - it's took a bit of elbow grease but it's starting to look good, hoping I can give it a good setup and make it a decent playing guitar - if not at least it'll be a trip down memory lane.

Nice, I spent the weekend messing around with my first guitar, an indonesian strat copy (branded Mustang) that needed rewiring. It's also plywood, the trem "block" is hollow and the claw adjustment screws aren't adjustable because instead of being parallel with the claw they're screwed down into the body perpendicularly. Still love it though and won't be able to sell it because who other than me would want it?

Aye, this definetly won't be an investment piece. Had to fix a chip in the fretboard today where it looked like someone shot it with an air rifle... hopefully not a sign of frustrations to come.

My first guitar was also a cheap plywood LP copy. I literally found it in the trash.

My original one cost £10 more than yours.

i see these show up in pawn shops around glasgow all the time. i had one for a bit which i paid £20 for. the pickups were perfect for me but i wasn't too into the les paul body shape so i sold it to a friend with a set of different pickups in it.

You're the first person I've heard of that replaced the guitar and kept the pickups. I haven't heard what the guitar sounds like as it only has two strings on to make sure the neck went back on straight, going to pick a set up on Friday.

the ones i've pulled out have always been kinda microphonic and cheap sounding...... which i love.

Well finished the work on the guitar. Strung it up and had a good shot at annoying the neighbours last night, am rather pleased with it, it's looking good for a 40ish year old guitar.

Like the first post says I bought this at the start of the first lockdown did a fair bit of work to it - plays really well - put a set of flatwound strings on it last night - what a difference sounds bloody awesome in a black keys kinda way.
