That being said, though, I'm an unabashed Deep Purple fan and that's probably where I first encountered a whole lot of Strat stuff as a kid.
Wow - I thought I was the only Deep Purple fan on this forum!

Anyone who thinks DP were all about mindless pentatonic riffs should watch this https://youtu.be/DjZONFu1fps

Love your work, Larry.

Thanks! That's a great one, but for me the jam from Fireball has to be this.

Good Strat playing there also, but it's Roger Glover's song to me.

No doubt someone will pull this thread back on track soon, but i’m going to enjoy this little Deep Purple tangent while it lasts :P

Larry - Agree with you on No One Came. Excellent groove and funky guitar work, and the Glover/Paice rhythm section is solid as ever.

Sookwinder - Jon Lord is an absolute legend. Brilliant composer, keyboard player, and a really decent human being as well. Shame he had to leave us a few years ago.

If i may indulge in one last piece, it’s this from their early period: a moody, brooding tune, and nothing at all like the heavy, screaming riffery that followed (and which i also love).

No doubt on the Mark I Deep Purple, all three of those albums were also excellent.

However, that might be ES-335 era Richie Blackmore! We're killing this thread.

I did, though, forget about one Stratocaster player that I absolutely love, Curtis Mayfield.

Here's a song that shows his great guitar playing, sounds like a Strat to me.

And if you'd like to see him play his Strat (he also played a Telecaster a lot) or just like great music, I'll present this here.

The strat doing surf...

One of my favorite things I’ve ever seen strats do

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YC7bxEvGJwg

I don’t even like surf that much

Not sure if they're well liked or not here, but Vulfpeck did really master the whole "so uncool it's very cool again", and Cory Wong's strat sound is a big part of that, mostly by leaning heavily in the DI-d fourth position funk sound.

(they even manage to make the whole madison square garden groove to a strat funk rythm)

he also has a great sound in his solo tunes , like in Lunchtime

It was indeed ES-335 era, but i couldn’t resist it :)

Is there any love for Rory Gallagher on this forum? I enjoy quite a few of his tracks - he got one of the thickest strat sounds ever.

Vulfpeck give me a lot of nostalgia from my university years. They remind me of the various funky combos I played with during my Jazz minor.
That sort of music is so much fun to play with friends.

Wake up people! If you play a Strat you will end up looking like this:

Before you know it you'll be in a blues band. It's a slippery slope! :freako:
And become obsessed with looking at your own arse

Yesssssssss

Also Roland Grapow from Helloween/Masterplan, who made an SSS Strat sound like one of the biggest guitars I've ever heard on a record. Not my favorite Helloween albums musically by far, but he got some pretty godly tones with them, and Masterplan has always sounded killer. Yeah cheesy power metal and all, but it's fun as hell and he sounds great.
