Fun Screamadelica Stratocaster, anyway.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

$1349 USD, $1729 CAD. https://www.guitarworld.com/news/summer ... ure-models
I'm happy to see Cory Wong get a signature strat, though I always think it spoils a bit of the fun of the signature when they mostly make a new version of the artist's main guitar. Still, the man has been playing the same Highway 1 strat for years, they was a rumor of a musicman collaboration at some point but I'm glad Fender did right by him!

It depends... If someone is really closely associated with that guitar, it makes sense to make a rather faithful reproduction of it. Plus Fender probably wants to cash in on that Vulfpeck-hype after they didn't manage to get/keep Joe Dart on board.

Plus the (popular) artists that are playing a rather unique Fender and are associated with said instrument aren't that common anymore... throw in some rather strict exclusivity-thing and that scares away even more artists, unless they are known to play Fender (in public) almost exclusive regardless.

I mean, I'd pay money for a Joe Messina signature telecaster, a guitar sound that is heard around the world for almost 60 years now. But who (except people with a thorough musical knowledge) the hell knows who Messina is.

At least it came in below the TVL price point.

Teles are so easy to get a hold of that a sparkle refin or build with a sparkle body is really easy to do at or below this price point, though.

You have to be a fan of both sparkle and fake aging, and I feel like that's not the biggest intersection on the Venn diagram. I think people either like fake beat up guitars, or nice shiny sparkly guitars.

Maybe I'm just speaking for myself.

I love sparkles and J Mascis and I'm alright with relicing. Quite tempted by one of these but I don't usually buy brand new guitars. The sparkles though...

I love the color but I bought a used Baja Tele for less than half the price a couple years ago. The price it's listed for might be what I would be willing to pay for a purple MIJ JMJM, but as it is I'm curious if this is mainly being sold as a collector's item vs. something you can grab off the shelf and not worry about. The toploading is cool but I wonder if I would notice a difference vs. the standard setup.

There is a big difference in play feel with a top loader tele bridge. Tonally? Probably much less so.

The thing about signatures is either your a fan and want the look sound or you want the feature set. One of teh reasons, IMHO, that the MarrGuar is so highly regarded is the pickup/sound features you can get out of it. Same with the Clapton strat

I do appreciate that J Mascis went back to sparkle and if i was looking for a Maple neck tele i might look at this once information on teh pickups became available.

What with both the Jag-Stang being back and J getting a signature Tele, i.e. Fender betting on the 90s alt-rock being the focal point of nostalgia at the moment, this would have been the perfect time for a Kevin Shields JM.

Yeah it's the 30th anniversary of Nevermind so one'd think maybe they'd do the same for Loveless as it came out the same year, especially considering the mini doc they did on Kevin Shield's JMs for the JM's 60th anniversary.

Fun is the perfect word for it. I like that they appear to have screen printed on the pickup covers too. Wish it had a maple neck.

Only the neck is roadworn. I’m guessing the body will be poly? I’m pretty excited about this one. Been really wanting a maple neck Tele.

Great looking guitar - silly price - is the guitar I most associate with J after seeing it in the Feel the Pain video back in the day.

Image

In the times before I had t'internet J Mascis was a Tele player based on the above video and one of the many reasons it is my guitar of choice

Well, I mean, if you were like me, most of what you'd heard by him was studio albums, so he really was a Tele (and Les Paul Jr/Special) player. I just didn't know it at the time, either.

These days, he's using Teles and LPs in the studio and JMs with Kinman Thickmasters live, so there really isn't much of traditional Jazzmaster tone to be found anywhere.

I love how this looks, but do I need another Mascis signature?
