The fake Rickenebacker thread

Post by Fiddy » Sun Apr 28, 2019 10:19 am

I figured we could also use a fake Rickenbacker thread.

I've had about five by now..
-Dillion 350 copy. Really awful neck, bad pickups MIK.
-Jay Turser 350 copy, probably same factory as the Dillion as they were both equally crappy.
-Semihollow, No name Chinese copy I got from Doug aka Fullerplast. This one was very nice and light.
-Jaguar 350 copy, just another mediocre copy.

I currently own this one, it's beautiful and plays fantastic. Double bound, blocks and binding. Made in the 90s by the Greco company. Its got one hell of an amazing neck that words cannot describe properly.

It confused the hell out of me when i was young that the 360WB looks more like a 330 than a 360.

Sharks and binding...

The Greco is the only decent fake that I have played, but I would think the Ibanez 4000 style bass would be good

There are some nice Aria Pro, and Fernandes copies too. I would assume those are on par with the Greco. At least the Fernandes ones should be.

No experience with Tokai copies..

not really a faker...

but it's based on the Ric Capri...with some differences. non-Ric headstock, thicker neck, different pickups, customized pickup selectors (on is traditional, the other gives 3 voicing per p/up position.).

the strip of wood in the center of the body is from an old floor board from our house.

pros: good build quality, plays, looks and sounds great.
negs: heavy.

I like this thread. I'm very interested in playing a Rickenbacker style guitar

I would love to have a decent 330 style guitar one day, but I'm looking towards the copy market since I have tested like 9 different 330/360 guitars and only one (black 330 from mid 90s) wasn't complete crap - I was really unpleasantly surprised hat quality control was all over the place (neck twists, frets sticking out, generally dead sounding examples). That's why I can't really justify the price of an used 330 in europe.

I know the neck thru ones are near impossible to fix if the neck bends or twists (as it often happens).
The truss rod on mine won't move :o but it is very playable, so what... RnR
