Do all green guitars look bad? Good examples?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Gretsch's Cadillac Green is a good example.
Yes especially old examples. Gretsch Rally Green is no bad too and of course there's the Double Anniversary in two tone smoke green.

I guess you could think all of the above are munters but in that case you must really be holding onto a treasure trove of exquisite taste and colour wheel wizardry.

I was just thinking about Johnny Marr's green Telecaster trying to decide if it was cool or just ugly.
I'll help you out there, it's horrible 'WD' catalogue chic circa 1990.

I'm amazed anyone could be undecided on that one, if it didn't belong to a sleb I think you might find the decision making process a whole lot easier. It's 'Cash Converters' chic...or at least it's the sort of thing that is forever unbought in an independent guitar shop, where stock comes and goes but that thing just hangs there year after year repelling all buyers.

On the scale scientists have developed to stratify good aesthetic taste it scores a clear 'Donald Trump'.

I can think of several good examples...

I'm a fan of the Marr Jaguar too (although I'd prefer a parchment guard, not mint)...

Image

It's not always dark green either...

G&L has some nice green finishes.
Clear green:

green burst:

emerald green metallic:

green sparkle:

The sparkle is an acquired taste, but I really like the clear green and even the green burst. Emerald green is just sexy.

I love the color green, and most green guitars.

These are two of mine, with the Jaguar being my #1.

I just bought this green herringbone tweed guitar strap for my green DeArmond S73-12.

Image

[I bought it on etsy from DawnColgan, and I totally recommend her! There are also bags and other things made out of Harris Tweed there. I contacted the shop to fine tune the measurements; I wear this guitar really high because it's neck heavy, but want it to go long enough if I choose to someday wear it with something else. Anyway, Dawn was excellent to work with---very responsive, and it shipped very fast even though I'm pretty sure it was made to order.]

For some reason the original post made me think we weren't talking about surf or sea foam green...but I also have this SUB Ray5 in their mint green color:

Apologies if it has been mentioned before, but can you provide more info about that Mustang? Or if it has its own thread provide the link.

I'm assuming custom shop own parts-stang?

Good examples. I like that last one. It's more subtle. I wonder what color that is. Looks very custom. Must be a refinish no?

It looks like the original finish but it was originally Sonic Blue which has turned green from age.

I dislike green with a passion on a guitar... But there is one brand that gets away with it, and even induces GAS...

Yeah ... Guilds in green are indeed a thing of beauty.

I passed up the opportunity to buy a green Starfire a few years back ... I still regret it.

It will have originally been a stock Daphne Blue mustang but, as Squirrel says, the clearcoat on these old Fenders would yellow over time, mainly from exposure UV rays. (Yellow & blue makes green).
You can see the Daphne Blue around where the clearcoat has been scuffed off & I'd put money on the body under the pickguard being the original Daphne Blue too as it's been covered up.

The pictured guitar is a particularly nice example. You'll see plenty that have blotches of green, rather than an even spread, which can look pretty ugly, in my opinion anyway.

If you're unfamiliar with how yellowed clearcoat can effect the colour of a guitar check out some early red Competition Mustangs that look almost bronze, better than the original Candy Apple Red (again, in my humble opinion). Similarly, the Lake Placid Blue ones go a gorgeous greeny blue.

The same thing probably happened to the orange ones but it's harder to spot as yellow & orange tends to just look more orangey.
