the pickups actually really worked on this guitar. the neck was straight as an arrow too. i know the guy who worked on it and he always takes his time when it comes to any neck issues.

Nice! But too bad they changed the bridge. I like the look of those..

I play the Fakenbacker that Fullerplast made!. I put a Mastery bridge on it, and it nails the Ric sounds, whilst being far more playable.

the p/ups in it measure to .11 like Hi gains, so I wonder if putting them in will changethe sound at all.

toasters are much harder to come by (except for fake ones)...plus, I have another faker and the toasters sound like authentic Ric toasters (I had a Ric with toasters and we did "blind tests" and could not tell them apart).

I like the idea of Hi gains...but do you think it would dramatically change the sound?

I've played a few Fakenbackers over the years - mostly basses, but quite a few of the post-'90s ones by the likes of Tanglewood, Jim Deacon, Gear4Music, etc. So far the Rockinbetter/Tokais have eluded me, but I'll probably get to try one out one of these days.

The best bass I've tried was the Hondo II, complete with stereo outs. I had a '70s Shaftesbury briefly, which could barely be called a copy, the dimensions were so far off. Didn't stop eBay pulling it, of course.

I was browsing Rickenbackers lately on Gumtree, Facebook, etc. and noticed an awful lot of people asking silly money for nothing-special fakes. Like £450-ish, which will buy you a far nicer, better in every respect, guitar from a host of budget lines.

Resurrecting an old thread. Does anyone know the difference between the Aria Diamond series (bolt on neck) and the Aria Pro series? The Aria Pro II look to be similar to the Greco Rick copies and higher quality. Ive recently seen Aria Diamond series copies but they have bolt on necks. What's the story with those? I had an Ibanez Ric 4003 bass that was a pretty damn nice bass. It didnt exactly nail the Ric tone, but quality wise, it was a great instrument.

Well, as far as the story goes, Aria Diamond was the old name of Aria. They made some very nice and some less nice guitars in the70's.
The famous T -1802/1803 series offsets are quiet nice guitars, but their Fender copies were usally plywood, bad necks (which had quiet a tendency to wrap), low quality hardware etc... Their Les Paul copies are famous for being, well...not nice...
In the late 70's early 80's, they "upped" their game and created Aria Pro (I think they cahnged ownership arround this time). This is were the quality really started to improve.
I played quiete a few Aria Pro guitars (ES 335 copy, Super Strat's, etc...) and they were all of really good building quality.
They made some nice series like the "Cardinal" and the Aria Pro or Aria Pro II (as is on the headstocks) have been sleepers for quiet a while. But as of late it seams their quality is being recognized as I see prices going up.
So, If you can, try out an ARIA PRO (II). You won't get disapointed...

As far as Rickenfackers go, stay AWAY from the "gear4music/Fazley" stuff. By FAR the most awfull guitar I ever played...
Set neck copy, but they got the angle all wrong, comes with a 7.25" radius fretboard, coupled with a 12" radius bridge.
The pick ups were just plain awfull microphonic mini buckers, that actually sounded not to bad, but they were noisy beond belief...
I've been fooling arround with guitars for over a decade and I kind of know how to set up a guitar. But I just could'n set up this Fazley Rick aboniation by far. No matter how hard I tried... This guitar can only be used a wall hanger...
I end up swapping it for a cheap Ibanez guitar that was 10 times better....

I wouldn't consider that a copy. That's not even a Ric shape. Kinda like a Yamaha pacifica Strattish copy to a Strat.

It does copy some aspects i guess, like the pickguard style and the lower cutaway a bit. That upper horn is just fucked.

My RG-680 is an Aria Pro II, and the serial dates it to 1973. I think your info/dates might be a little off.
