Lots of really cool bass guitars in this thread!! :-*

I am happy to report that payday came yesterday and on the same day a cool looking bass appeared on Ebay.

I made an offer and this morning the seller counter-offered a reasonable "meet-in-the-middle" price and I accepted! 8)

I have more basses than guitars, and I'm way better at bass than at guitar.

P-bass,
J-Bass,
Rickenbacker 4003
EB-3
5-string Ibanez Soundgear

A friend just gave me back a bass, so now I have 4 proper basses & 3 bass VI's. I'm sure I have enough parts to build another.

That is an awesome collection!! There’s not much of anything that you couldn’t do with them.
This isn’t some kind of metaphor
Goddamn this is real

Oh yeah!!! I remember now! That VI is *GLORIOUS* :? :w00t: :?
Cheers man!

Yep, I still love that build - it’s one of my most inspiring instruments to play.
That's good to know! Considering the effort that it takes to make a VI/VI-type in lefty, it worries me when I read that some people "don't know what to do with/play on them" after they've built them. I never had that worry for myself too much, but it's there a tiny bit...

I'll swap out the Ibanez for a 5-string Stingray in the near future, in order to kill two birds with one stone. And then maybe a 2nd P-bass with an unlined fretless neck.

Proud jazz bass owner since 1997. Same strings on it. I’ve moonlighted on bass during high school, because no one wanted to play bass, so I did and played a ton of gigs on bass. Mainly got t for recording, but I’ll get a phone call from a friend asking to fill in on a session or gig once in awhile....
This brought me to the Band Death From Above 1979...and various stoner doom bands of just drums and bass. 6 string bass would be fantastic to explore and make a sick heavy project.

I have a Mexican Jazz Bass. I keep thinking about getting something else but I don’t really play bass often and the JB does the job.

I had an MIM standard Jazz Bass back in high school and I wish I would have kept it, it was a solid instrument and I liked the satin finish neck.

Yes, actually I have 3 but I haven’t seen one of these in this thread so I couldn’t resist throwing this old warhorse into the mix. Was a working guitar for decades. Don’t blame me for the extra holes in the body. I loaned it out for a single night and didn’t see it again for nearly a year—as memory recalls. When I recovered it, which is a story in itself, it had those holes and was missing the E bridge peg. The only Guild peg I could find at the time was for a different model, but it worked/works. Otherwise, almost gigged this poor beast to death, but it still keeps perking right along.

EDIT: I forgot to point out that golf thingie under the E peg to boost it up to playable height.
Isn’t Sunburst a guarantee it’s NOT a refin?

This is awesome! I want to know the story behind getting it back!
