I had a potential sale yesterday. The guy who bought my 67 CAR Jag and 73 SB JM was keen. Said he'd sleep on it (fair)

Today he offered me 11k. Well. No.
FWIW (as more of a curiosity, if anything) I just saw one like yours all original for sale in FB marketplace for 42k.

I've strung this thing with 'normal person' 10-42 strings, set it up for whomever eventually buys it and popped it in it's case. Out of sight, out of mind...

...let's see if I miss it while I wait.

Apparently not. Everyone that comes to mine to try a guitar always comments how heavy the strings are :D

I’ve kept 12s on the Musicmaster, but am glad to have it in D rather than Eb now. Not sure how you do it on the tele.

The grip of a gorilla :D My day job means my grip strength is pretty high. You should try one of GaryPtaszeks guitars... pretty sure he uses 13-60's or something in Eb on all his guitars :derp:

I started by putting 11s on my first Jag after decades of 10s on anything that didn't have a Floyd Rose (which are all still strung up with 9s, even the one that's tuned to Eb). Then I got my first Jazzmaster and 11s felt right there. Now I've been putting 11s on Strats and Teles. I'm actually wondering if I should throw 12s on a Jag now. LOL Almost everything is tuned standard, BTW.

Jeez, I'm having serious doubts about selling this now.

I've been playing it a bit again after tucking it away - supposedly someone is coming down from Liverpool next Friday to view with an intent to possibly buy and it feels weird.

Is this just early pangs of regret or me just being silly?

You bought it not knowing what it really was, so you must have liked it objectively anyway. It’s too heavy to be used the way you’d like, so it’s not fit for purpose. Would you move it on if it was worth £3k?

I bought it without doing anything more than holding it in my hands as it only had one string one it.

It's quite possibly the easiest and nicest playing guitar I've ever played, annoyingly. If it was only worth 3k I would have likely sold it already as work was pretty shit in March/April and I was running low on funds. The temptation to sell now I know it's value is two-fronted 1) I could make good of the money right now and 'could die tomorrow' is a real thing and b) now I know it's also tempting to hold on for more time and watch it grow in value... Not that I'm one for big speculative investments.

That's a very compelling point for team keep it. The kind of point that overcomes it being a bit heavy and not something you want to play live. As far as home and studio guitars go I'm not sure there are many better options.

If you'd be using the money to reduce mortgage or other debt, the cost of not doing that is possibly greater than a guitar of that age would grow in value - both in terms of direct interest saved, but also future mortgage payments reducing the principal beyond just covering interest. Worth talking to someone savvy who can do the calculations accurately - for some reason I can never figure this kind of thing out, but each time I've seen a financial advisor they just whip out a pencil and a notepad and I have an answer in 30 seconds.
