It sounds like a two man job… maybe three.cestlamort wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:21 pmThat's mainly for the old ones. (But a real thing). Supposedly you just need to adjust the neck by hand and then use the truss rods to stabilize it (rather than using them to change the relief). Most techs in Seattle know how to handle them (and one of the old Rickenbacker employees is up in Snohomish)

I've read it's best to either clamp the body to the bench and adjust or get a second pair of hands to hold the body down while you tighten them. Sounds like a faff about to me. Apparently the old rods used to be very easy to strip the threads on (plus the board lifting thing) but more modern ones aren't an issue.enricosonic wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 5:21 pmIt sounds like a two man job… maybe three.cestlamort wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:21 pmThat's mainly for the old ones. I'm not overly fussy about action as long as it's comfortable so hopefully it'll arrive close enough.

Yeah, if the shop is setting it up for you I’m sure you’ll be good to go. It’s literally been two decades since mine was set up and I use a similar 12-52 set.JSett wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 9:58 pm

Basically, yes but the major difference for me and the reason I'm on permanent lookout for the 'right' 360 is the front edge. On a 330, I way prefer the sharp top edge albeit unbound; on a normal 360 I just do not like the soft, rolled edge.
But a 6-string bound 360? Now you're talking! Reasonably rare and very beautiful.

I agree, I never clicked visually with the standard 360s, the rolled front edge and the shape variant make them look too small and blobbish for my tastes. That being said, maybe actually playing one would make my tastes steer in the opposite way !

Yeah, that's the beast I was initially looking for. Not all that common a model really from what I can tell!enricosonic wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 7:58 pm
This is arguably the most beautiful guitar I own. Still… crushed in the March Madness contest.
You had a tough draw in the March Madness though.

This never happens but there are three on eBay right now. Your choice of Jetglo, Mapleglo and Fireglo.

I always forget what Michael Stipe looked like with hair, and how small Bill Berry is.
I was only 1 when this was filmed though, so you can imagine my generation of REM was of a different look entirely.
P.s. the guitar looks lovely. Interested to hear what you think of the sound for your needs.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: No, I don't like The Beatles...
I was also only 1 year old when that R.E.M. performance happened!
I can only give a brief review as I can't play it much yet. I've put my back out really quite badly and am struggling to stand or sit without significant agony. Fun times. However, I battled through a half hour or playing with the adrenaline of excitement (and a little weed to smooth off the pain ). Fortunately it's pretty light. Also, sorry for the mess, the kitchen fit has exploded the rest of the house so I have approx 6 sq ft to play guitar in
I can see why some people would hate these necks, they are very unique. I, personally, love it. Hell, I'd happily have it skinnier but it's pretty much the exact size as my hand grip. It sounds as I expected from all the times I've heard them on record. There's definitely nothing 'High' about the Hi Gain pickups...pretty weak output, but that's easily overcome. Neck pickup is a muddy mess, very boomy - is this normal? I spend 99.9% of my time on the bridge anyway. I was expecting to have to take out the trademark strangle cap they apparently have on the bridge pickup but, upon checking the wiring, it's either been removed or wasn't there to begin with...which is a bonus.
So far, so good. I will reserve judgement for when I can play it comfortably and give it a blast with the band at proper volumes.
Point of note: the stock Ric hardcase is really nice. It's not much to look at but the clasps are solid as hell and easier to use than the classic Fender/Gibbo/etc ones...it's just the way they close, it's the small details for me.
