Re: Anyone else infatuated with their Acoustic?
I've been obsessed with this model long before I bought this one that arrived a couple of weeks ago - ordered direct from Gibson (hooray for artist pricing), which was a gamble, and I'm still getting used to the very generous neck profile of the 50s Original series, but I think this will grow into a fantastic guitar, especially after I get it into the shop to remove electronics/UST and pickguard. It sounds real deep but a bit scooped in the mids currently, am hoping that having those two things done in the shop will help show some improvement there.

Well, I'm certainly looking forward to a review of your first Gibson ever. Hell of a place to start!Dok wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 2:30 pmI've been obsessed with this model long before I bought this one that arrived a couple of weeks ago - ordered direct from Gibson (hooray for artist pricing), which was a gamble, and I'm still getting used to the very generous neck profile of the 50s Original series, but I think this will grow into a fantastic guitar, especially after I get it into the shop to remove electronics/UST and pickguard. Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Currently eyeing up this little thing and working out pre-Xmas finances (tricky time of year for gear purchases). The seller has come up with a figure I'm cool with but not sure I can afford just yet. Old Guilds seem to have shot up recently which is frustrating...

Just be sure you have plenty of frets and plenty of saddle to work with, which I assume you already know, still I managed to forget that recently.
Looks like a great guitar, though, and if you don't already have an 0 shaped guitar that would be a a great place to start.

Seems a little high to me. Not terribly high, though, then again older acoustics don't have a lot of higher value to me personally.
I mean I doubt you'll really care about the cost of it a year down the road or whatever. You'll almost certainly love the guitar. Don't let me talk you out of it.

Old USA acoustics are a lot of money over here. From what I've been seeing, when they come up this side of the pond, they tend to be about $2000-2400. Brand New M-20's are £1699/$2100Larry Mal wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:55 amSeems a little high to me. It's that or try and save a bit more and grab an old Gibson. But those are double the price (and then some!).

Old Gibson acoustics are a lot of money and you have to avoid the bad Norlin years, which means that the earlier stuff is even more in demand. 60's Guild guitars do compete with 70's and 80's Guild guitars, so the price evens out, but 60's Gibsons compete only with earlier ones.

Re: Anyone else infatuated with their Acoustic?
Indeed, I was looking specifically at the mid-late 60s Gibson's with the 1 5/8" nuts. I know people prefer the larger nut I'm general but they still command the pre-Norlin prices regardless. And I'd prefer a smaller body anyway like a B25N. Those seem to be around 2700 bucks on Reverb (plus shipping and import taxes). Big dollar difference.Larry Mal wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 8:26 amGot it... well, that's not a bad deal, then.

I’m gonna blame this thread for Guild inflation.

I think Guild might be close to the "official" acoustic guitar of OSG at this point.

Re: Anyone else infatuated with their Acoustic?
That’s a very nice looking guitar!! Oh man, at under $1500 for an early 60s Guild like that (with OHSC) I’d be tempted.johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 10:10 pmCurrently eyeing up this little thing and working out pre-Xmas finances (tricky time of year for gear purchases). Is the price “all in” or is there postage/duty etc… on top?
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

There's a bit of shipping etc to worry about too, but that's just something I've come to accept as a standard 'loss' buying from overseas.PorkyPrimeCut wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 11:00 pmThat’s a very nice looking guitar!!
