Discovered that I quite like Strat pickups but the body is always weird to me when I sit down and play, like it wants to slide out of my lap.
A Jazzmaster body with Strat pickups and wiring, hmm...

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I think I said it in the other thread, but that’s my Platonic ideal of a Stratocaster. I’m half-actively looking for a 70s/80s black+maple, but the thought of painting mine has crossed my mind…Maggieo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:41 pmI would either strip it and go walnut with tort, or all black like my 80's w/ the '75 pickguard assembly.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
Here are mine, all this time on an offset forum and I think I am a Strat guy. Still I have my Jazzmaster.
The left is a parts guitar, 2016 AV65 Strat body and a 2017 Eric Johnson neck. I hope one of my kids play guitar and this will be their’s one day.
The right is another parts, a 2022 ‘61 Reissue Custom Shop Strat body, with the neck off of the AV65. Just want to swap the plastics to look a bit more matched.

My Stratocaster:
I was unimpressed by the Fender Noventa and thought I could do better. It's got a 12º radius neck, jumbo frets, a Lindy Fralin Hum Cancelling AlNiCo Pole soapbar in the bridge and Fralin's Steel Pole Hum-Cancelling Soapbars in the middle and bridge, with a Stew Mac Super Switch (N/NM/M/MB/B, no out of phase) 1Meg volume pot and 500K tone pots, 52mm tremolo with a brass block. I'm thinking about adding a push/pull phase switch to the 2nd tone pot for more stratty toanz, but it's pretty magical already.

Great timing, my less adventurous version was finished last night:
Mystic Surf. Incredible! It almost looks like that exotic metallic eye-shadow.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
Question: if I’ve owned a few Japanese strats (squier silver series & 80s ST-72) and never really got on with them, will an ‘89 USA standard be likely to bring any joy?
It’s a stupid question, because I’ve come across one that’s underpriced. So if it stays that way I’ll probably buy it anyways

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
...a couple of weeks (or months?) ago I was lucky enough to pick up this early 1982 Squier JV Strat, and I love it!
It had been routed for humbucker/s at some point, and has 3 DiMarzio single coils and apparently a TBX system in it, but great stuff. Just want to put the correct one ply guard on.
I do, honestly, still prefer my all balck '83 SQ one, but it's all you need in a Strat, really. We'll see if I keep this one.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
I’ve tried a few of these and my take is it would be a good “pedal platform” guitar, but not the most complex/interesting sounding on its own.sal paradise wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 10:52 pmQuestion: if I’ve owned a few Japanese strats (squier silver series & 80s ST-72) and never really got on with them, will an ‘89 USA standard be likely to bring any joy?

What’s the general view on a CS guitar unseen, without case & COA?
Spotted what would be an extremely rare cs strat going for a fair price. I suppose just too many questions to take a risk on something that expensive.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
The question is really, why is the case and COA missing? I can't see any realistic reason why someone would discard something like that with such an expensive guitar.sal paradise wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 5:12 amWhat’s the general view on a CS guitar unseen, without case & COA?

Probably/possibly stolen.

Also, it’s a strat. So there’s almost 100% chance that I’d be trying to sell it 4 weeks later & not sure I want that headache.

Re: Stratocaster appreciation thread
Actually just finished up a parts strat build, as soon as I saw this body I knew I had to have it, managed to get good deals on all the parts too and It came together super quickly.
