I thought the Fender Sixty-Six was a cheap, phoned in design on the same level as the new Maverick or even the Jag-Strat, but I love what you're doing with it. That looks great.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Had a bit of a set-back with the headstock.
The decal came off with the tape I used to mask off the red swoop.
I was painting on a 30 degree day and the tape got sticky and affected the finish.
Anyway, I was able to fix it all up!

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I popped some goldfoil pickups in this from EZPZ.
Sounds heaps better. Nice chimey bell tones you get from such pickups.

Lots of interesting things going on with this guitar, and it's good to hear an opinion on those pickups. I've been curious about them. Have you tried out original Dearmond gold foils (which cost $mega), and if you have, are these similar?

I haven't tried the originals. So I've got no idea how they compare.antisymmetric wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 9:09 pmLots of interesting things going on with this guitar, and it's good to hear an opinion on those pickups. I've had good luck with the pickups I have bought so far from EZPZ.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Putting the final touches on this.
I need to widen the pickup routs on the pickguard so I can raise the pickup height properly.
I'm pretty happy with the finish. It's not Factory quality but it's pretty good!

That is a really nice dakota red! I always struggle to find good red paint, and some of the stuff from guitar finish suppliers is simply off (ended up with a very pink 'dakota red' once). You really nailed it here.

Thanks. Yeah, the red really pops! I got it from Sydney-guitar-setups.epizootics wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 9:44 amThat is a really nice dakota red! It's some of the best nitro I have used.

I couldn't agree more. That is such an amazing Dakota finish and it pops with the tort. That thing is so cool.

More pics with a bit more work done on the pickguards.
It still has the protective plastic on it which is wrinkly in some bits.
