I don't know! I'm lefty, so generally guitars that can be straight-up bought don't apply to me, but I love looking through pictures of everything for inspiration, even when I can't just buy something. I've seen the guitar and bass version with the small pickguard, but I've never seen one with this awesome pickguard shape!CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 8:52 pmHow have you missed these? They've been a pretty popular cheap entry level bass for the last 15 years or so.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 7:38 pmI didn't know these existed!! It's almost like a curvier P-Bass. Is it a short-scale? $65 is a killer deal!!
I believe it's 30" scale, same as the mustang bass

Right?! Haha. I honestly don't mind most guitars not being available lefty, as I much prefer being able to design something custom or homemade. And, my bank account appreciates not having such ease of buying more guitars too!CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 10:04 pmLefties sure get shafted.

The only thing that kills me sometimes is not being able to buy weird scale necks. Squier has been making the Bass VI for over a decade, and if we'd gotten a lefty version, I could just buy one for the neck, and I'd be sorted. I'm kinda tempted to grab a righty VI neck and just have a reverse headstock, but I'm not positive...

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I went with Copacetic's suggestion and sanded the pickguard down. I eventually used thinners to get the black paint off.
I then gave it a polish. Looks pretty good.
Popped some new tuners on it. They are cheap and nasty but they are fine for a bass like this. Probably needs some grease.

I will eventually turn my Bronco bass into an actual Bronco.
I did this quick mock up.

Also, I replaced the blue pickguard on my CV Squier Mustang with a red tort one.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Do you know anything about the origin of that bass? I totally sprayed the stock pickguard black on the one I had and that grain pattern around where the decal would have been seems wickedly familiar. Mind you this was 2008 or so and I don’t remember seeing the Fender “endorsement” behind the headstock. I’m also in Ontario so the trip to Melbourne is a bit of a stretch.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 5:54 pmYeah it's definitely painted. I just can't be bothered sanding it back and polishing it.copacetic wrote: ↑Mon Dec 19, 2022 5:52 pmit looks like that pickguard has just been crudely painted.. id be willing to bet its just an original white guard under there.. Hit it with an acetone soaked rag and maybe buff it a bit, and theres your free white guard! Should melt right off unless they used a fancy catalyzed paint (which it certainly doesnt look like they did)

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
It's possible it could be the same one. But I bought it locally, in Melbourne. Don't know anything else about it.
I've seen a few mods on these where the pickguard has been painted and logo scrubbed off. (two mods which are a pet peeves of mine)
