Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
So I'm still torn between B and C, I guess. I like how obnoxiously large the XII surround version is, but the Dano one is cool too. hmmm.

B looks the best for balance, except the lack of gap by the pickup. That looks perfectly positioned on C.
They both look stunning tbf & I’d be happy with either if I were buying it.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I'd go for C, the XII bridge one covers up too much of the nice wood on top and the whole bridge ends up being mostly screws anyways with how many you need to fit. The Dano then being cleaner. It might be a different choice if you had an original XII bridge, but not sure... It'll be great anyways.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
Thanks, guys.
Sal Paradise, yeah, the thing holding me back from option B is the space between the bridge surround and where it meets the pickup.
I probably should have routed the pickup after I decided on the bridge.
Bodhi. I agree as well. I tend to avoid adding anything to a guitar that doesn't need to be there for aesthetic purposes.
And it's weird the amount of screws needed to hold it in place. I should just save the ring for a future Fender XII project.
Option D, I could design my own based off the XII design and have it 3D printed but I've already blown my budget on this build.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I like the look of all 3, but honestly, as much as option A is a little boring, I kinda like that it's smaller than the other 2. Option B would probably be my favorite though.

Re: Cross Guitars - projects and restorations
I like C best, then A, then B last, but then I'm a less-is-more, form-follows-function person. I feel like the surround on option B is just superfluous here and I agree with bodhi about the amount of screws.

C looks by far the most cohesive with the design, IMO.

I like the Dano-style bridge.
I like this a lot. Obviously the shape is Mandocaster-derived, but the figured wood gives it a Paul Bigsby flavor, and there’s some Dano-ness as well.

24" scale XII neck!
Kluson style tuners are slightly different to each other. Bought left set and right set from an Ebay shop claiming they are Gotoh's ha!
But they are still good quality.

Awesome stuff.
Do you do the binding after the headstock radius is drum sanded in or do you do the binding first then radius the dropoff at the end of the fretboard?
I'm curious how people do that, I've been doing the radius after the binding is on and it sort of makes a mess of the binding there.

I usually do it before it's sanded. But I have done it afterwards as well. Doesn't make much difference to me but I know what you mean by it messing up the binding.repoman wrote: ↑Fri Jul 15, 2022 7:17 amAwesome stuff.

I used to even glue the binding on after radiusing the fretboard because it was easier to sand but I found it more difficult to glue the binding on after it was radiused.
I feel like I kinda rushed this one. The superglue set real quick and I couldn't quite get the binding flush to the channel where it meets the headstock.
I can fix it though but I also might paint the headstock to hide it, who knows.

Quick mockup.
I ended up going with the trapezoid Dano XII bridge.

That is beautiful. How does it balance / sit in one's lap? I'm just imagining it as a perfect couch guitar.
