That looks seamless. Fantastic work!

It just amazes me how much good, interesting stuff is being made by people of this forum. So much skill!

Anyway, I am currently building a small combo cabinet for a 'Fenderish' style amp. The tolex was applied the Vox way, rather than the Fender way (if there is such a thing)...

This is progress to date;
Looks great! By the "Vox way" do you mean a single piece of tolex that wraps around the side vs the Fender style of multiple pieces and overlapping top and bottom pieces?

Love your amp stuff Tony. In fact I have saved some of your pics to guide me how to lay out the amp parts if I ever going to do it your way (hope you don't mind). Mine is the old fashioned point to point way, which can look quite messy.

Re your question... you are spot on. I have a Vox AC15 and a Fender Princeton and noticed how the Tolex was glued on so differently. I really like the way it is done on the Vox so did the same for mine. You use a little more tolex but the clean looks and having only one 'overlap' on the bottom is well worth it imo.

Thank you, the only overlap is at the bottom and partly hidden by the corner pieces. I am quite please how it came out.

finished this tilt-back 1x15 cab to complete a fender princeton head, 2x10 with one alnico and one ceramic, and a neo mag 1x15 cab short stack. also, have a different amp project brewing for one of our own. wiring up a 5f10 harvard chassis for a righteous dude.

Nice! What grill cloth do you use and where to buy? The one I used is plastic woven material and quite thick. It is hard to glue it onto the baffle due to its thickness and therefore its inherent memory.

Looking for something that is thinner and ideally can be stapled on. Any suggestions?

A whole bunch of updates, mostly workshop related.

Image
I've got my big assembly/work table that I built, which I love, but it can be a bit bulky/cumbersome to drag out if I'm just doing something quick. I had some 2x4s laying around, so I started building the frame for a smaller table (48" x 48" as opposed to the 48" x 96" of the big one). I'll likely add some T-track for this one too, but haven't done the MDF work surface yet.

Image
Got some new wood chisels (full tang this time, with a metal cap on the butt so a hammer or mallet won't damage them!), so I made a new cleat rack for them.

Image
I don't think it will be the final version, but I made a little rack for my black pipe clamps. Here are the 36" long pipe clamps.

Image
Here are the 48" long pipe clamps. I made the piece they fit into, but didn't have enough time for make the rest of the rack.

Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions that I can answer or otherwise contribute to. I do point to point stuff every once in a while when it's needed. Either on really simple stuff or Sunn recreations. This is Sunn's PTP layout but a few years ago I rebuilt the preamp on a completely jacked Model T:

Awesome on the tolex. I actually find that I waste very little doing it the Vox way, but I work around the tolex options I have. The stuff I generally use is 54" wide and sold by the yard. I order 2 yards and cut the whole roll in quarters so I have four 13.5" x 72" rolls. 72" is enough to cover the head cabs I make (21" x 9") and the 1x10 or 1x12 combos I make (15.5" x 16.5").

After converting an old iPod mini to flash storage, and determining that there just isn't an iPod around that sounds as good as Zunes do, I'm now upgrading my Zunes to use flash storage as well. The iPod will be fine for playing through my car stereo, but 20 year old MP3s and modern FLACs sound the same through it. Thanks, cult of apple, for ensuring that your crappy hardware won out over the better player.
This is an excellent rectangle

Almost together. I happened upon a vintage name plate reading " HEIT -DELUXE-" for a (I think) Teisco model. My normal brand name is "Height" and my original Domino I'm copying has a name plate, so this felt right. I'm also contemplating knobs. The black Gibsons are really similar to my originals, but chonkier. I have some vintage silver Teiscos, or could get some originals, but would have to switch to metric pots... Witch hats always look good. BOSS knobs could be boss. UFOs would be nice, but it's hard to find ones that don't look cheap.
