Here's my 66 refin. It's an old refin and it came to me like this, and I really love the color. It's a metallic, slightly darker shade of LPB.

Just popping in to say that the type 1 Marauder that was recently posted and listed as IBM was not done by Copacetic, who does outstanding work and has painted a dozen or so guitars of mine - but the Marauder was done by Kifla on here. He built the first type 1 and type 2 recreations a decade ago. There's video of that marauder being played by someone finger style on YouTube. If I recall the title is in another language so I can't recall the title. I'll dig a little.
So perhaps PM Kifla. He goes back and forth between Houston and Croatia.

I'm almost positive i remember Boris (kifla) posting about that type 1 marauder somewhere and mentioning the paint was duplicolor, but cant find it now.
Pretty sure this is the one? duplicolor light blue metallic

If that is what he used, I used that for my Jazzmaster and it's a nice color, but I wouldn't say LPB and mine came out a little different from his perhaps. It could also be lighting because my light blue metallic looks anywhere from IBM, Daphne blue, Sonic Blue, silver blue just depending on the lighting. I actually which it would make up its mind and stick to one color. There are days I love it and then days I think about changing the color.

I'm about to say something that might be perceived as sacrilege, but maybe a nice mint guard might change your opinion on the color of that JM It seems like there's a lot of intense orange/red fighting for visual attention, but a subtle blue needs even subtler accent colors to really shine. And oil that thirsty board while you're at it!

I made this guitar for this very reason and made it look this way on purpose lol. I saw a IBM JM with an orange tort guard decades ago and that always stuck with me. I couldn't decide if I wanted to go IBM or Daphne blue when painting. I did a whole post about it. You're going in the way wrong direction, but I'm sure your Jazzmaster will look nice with a mint guard on a light blue with a nice oiled neck. Go for it .alexpigment wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:23 pmI'm about to say something that might be perceived as sacrilege, but maybe a nice mint guard might change your opinion on the color of that JM It seems like there's a lot of intense orange/red fighting for visual attention, but a subtle blue needs even subtler accent colors to really shine. Besides Bahama Blue Metallic, another Duplicolor shade you might want to try is Bright Agua Metallic for a nice shade of LPB. In my experience its a bight lighter and more blue than the head caps ont he cans I've seen, which may be a good thing for what youre looking for. Its one of those colors that has a chameleon effect in photos, where it photographs bright blue but is more green in person.
Here it is right after spraying on my Smells Like Teen Spirit Mustang Project with 2K cleacoat. The left is the unedited photograph, right is how it looked in person at the time.
Here is the finished guitar after about 8-10 coats of warm gloss polyurethane to make it greener. Still looks bluer in some photos, but overall still greener, brighter, and just as saturated in person. You can skip the tinted clear coat to keep it blue, I just wanted mine greener. Your screen is probably much different than mine, so the real shade is somewhere in the middle, lol.

I seem to recall that thread not too long ago, but I was really just trying to poke the bear with a non-tort suggestion I tried a tort on my last build (like I usually do) but it just was too subtle of a body color, so I pivoted to mint:Spitfire7 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:34 pmI made this guitar for this very reason and made it look this way on purpose lol. That looks great! Is that a vintage modified? If so those were so good. I've owned 3 of them so far and each one was a perfect player. Actually that JM above is a VM and I've painted it several times.alexpigment wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 5:47 pmI seem to recall that thread not too long ago, but I was really just trying to poke the bear with a non-tort suggestion I tried a tort on my last build (like I usually do) but it just was too subtle of a body color, so I pivoted to mint:Spitfire7 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 2:34 pmI made this guitar for this very reason and made it look this way on purpose lol. No, it's actually an American Pro II body in mystic surf green with a Squier Deluxe JM neck (i.e. a J Mascis neck without the signature on the back). I haven't owned a VM before, but I played a few in store back in the day, and I'm sure they're a perfect candidate for painting/modding etc.

Just to be clear, you went with Bahama blue not Agua Blue right? And I think you nailed it for the Kurt Mustang. I think after seeing that Maurader I now want to go with the lighter LPB with now yellow or green.gerardguey wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2024 5:29 pmBesides Bahama Blue Metallic, another Duplicolor shade you might want to try is Bright Agua Metallic for a nice shade of LPB. I found an older phot of my Jag before it really turned greenish blue or OTM and it's the perfect reference photo of what I am looking for now. I love it and wish it would have stayed and always looked like this. This is my new reference of the color I am looking for.

Oh gotcha, I meant Dupli-Color EBGM04407 General Motors Bright Aqua Metallic, not Bahama Blue.
But yeah, probably too green and bright/saturated for what youre looking for. I've used Bahama Blue before and found it wasn't green enough in person. The Bright Aqua Metallic is actually a really nice and bright "Electric Blue" if you ever need it though. In general every Dupli-color I've tried feels more saturated than Fender's actual colors, though thats a good or bad thing depending on what you want.
Is 2K the only clear coat that doesn't yellow over time? Or do they all yellow at some point?

I believe I found it. I called Duplicolor and they helped me find the shade just under their Light Blue Metallic and it's called the Ford Medium Blue Metallic. It is a discontinued color, but I found a few cans left and snagged them up. I believe this will be the perfect LPB. I will let you know more and keep this thread updated through the painting process.
I believe this will be that perfect mix of not too light, not too dark, vibrant, and metallic LPB.

How did you determine the placement of your MosL0
ike tremolo? I have a build im doing and also have the MosLike trem. I'm just debating whether or not to plug the stop tail and put that on in its place.

Okay new paint just came in and here are the results. When I saw the cap I was a little worried. The cap is not even close to the color. However once sprayed over a white base, I think this should do just fine. What do you guys think? You can also see how much my Jag has turned green. Finally my Jag will stay blue in all lighting scenarios. A new Spitfire is underway as well. Going for the faded vintage bright red with an orangy hue. Should be lovely.
