Best vintage Lake Placid Blue (LPB) spray rattle can. Show your examples. PIC HEAVY

Hey guys, I've always wanted that perfect vintage LPB and have never yet been able to achieve it just yet. I always go too green and end up with green metallic or currently it has a OTM look to it. Its cool in some lighting, but most of the time its a teal darker green and I just have never been happy with it. It was supposed to be a LPB, but we went too heavy with the amber clear coat. When I first got it, it was okay, but rather quickly within a year it aged to a greenish teal.

So lets do this right.

What is the best rattle can preferably acrylic LPB and what have you guys had the best luck with? I don't want it too dark of a blue, and not green. Its like that perfect shade of light/medium blue with a hint of teal. Lets see your results. Please post pictures.

Here is what mine currently looks like. Its hard to capture, but add another 3 shades of green in person.

Now here is what I ideally would absolutely love to have. This is an actual 1965 LPB.

My local Auto Zone only has one or two options, and this is the Bahama Blue which seems pretty vibrant metallic blue. Has anyone else used this Bahama blue? You can also see how green mine is in comparison. I really don't like it in this lighting.

So hopefully you can see where I am going with this. I absolutely DO NOT want the modern looking 60th Anniversary Jaguar LPB look which is too dark blue for me. So I DO NOT want it to look like this....

Lets see your pictures and results. Thanks.

Seems like you want Cadillac’s Lake Placid Blue like this.

I can't get my screen to make that one look right. Almost looks too blue. The best example I also found on their site is the original Fender chart. That LPB once again looks perfect and the color I would love to find. However, the one on the their website, the link you sent, still looks different from the Fender chart. I'm hoping to find this more lighter looking blue.

It might be worth reaching out to MJT and asking what paint they use. My Jag, photographed below, looks to be very close to what you're after although it is very difficult to photograph the colour correctly.

Yep, there's a few here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=128845

It's difficult to photograph, looks more green in the photos, but the one I posted above is most accurate to how blue it is.

Also curious about this as well, I absolutely love that specific shade of blue on that 65.

I'm sure there are better experts than me regarding spraying colors, but to my eye that's not exactly the color as it was sprayed, rather what it looks like after the laquer has yellowed and darkened a bit... There was a similar thing regarding Sherwood Green, and in the Gibson world Pelham blue has variants where the laquer layer has greened over time, which to me looks better (in pictures, at least) than a fresh clean Pelham blue.

I found some more examples of that perfect lighter LPB that I'm after.

The search continues, however I'm getting close to maybe using that Duplicolor Bahama Blue and then shoot one or two coats of amber tint clear over that.

What do you think? Is this close?

Honestly, rattle cans aren’t that expensive so buy one and do a spray test on a scrap piece of 1x4 and then judge the results.

Well there's a little more to it than that. I need a white primer, the color and then the amber aged clear which adds up really fast. So want to make sure it's right and I'm hoping to find someone ahead of me that's done it and see their results first.

However, I just saw this pop up as well and I think this is the perfect color for me, however they say its Ice Blue Metallic, but generally the IBM is much lighter when it comes from Fender. So this one right here is where its at and would I would love to have on my Jaguar. I am trying to track down the exact paint he used, but gosh this is a beauty and reminds me of very early LPB.
