Custom finish partscaster altered Strat/Jazzmaster neck
Need some help please! Reddit/youtube concentrate on getting a shiny new lacquered look, wood grain etc. But how would I get this finish? I've already got the body filed, sanded and finished, lipstick pickups ready etc. But I'm at a loss as to how to get this worn look on the body accurately. Any help appreciated.

Sand the finish off and play it for 30 years.

Yeah I'd go with 'don't apply a finish' based on those pics.

Yeah, looks like raw wood.

You could very cautiously try the steel wool in vinegar solution - perhaps dilute it or don’t let it stew as long, to make the ebonising more subtle. That’d give you a headstart.

It most like has an oil finish. Danish oil, boiled linseed oil, TruOil. Properly dispose of rags, fire hazard.
TruOil is a nice product (gun stock oil). Not actually an oil. It cures and polymerizes. Apply in THIN coats.
It cures into a hard and smooth finish. I use it on the back of guitar necks.

I would do Tru Oil and knock down the shine with steel wool.
It does look like it’s not actually finished to me as well though. I would just want a little protection.
Cool that you’re doing a version of this guitar.

Actually, looking at the shape of the body I'd go with "oversand".
