Sticker Up a Squier Sunburst Starcaster Finished Pg. 1

Post by HNB » Sat Mar 16, 2024 12:58 pm

These are so cheap, I figured I would grab one to sticker up to go with my painted white and black ones. I know stickers are polarizing, but I think they are fun. I am not sure what pickups I want to drop in yet. I have new pots, toggle, and jack coming in. Nothing wrong with the stock stuff as far as I can tell, but I figured might as well? I do prefer pure tone jacks because they hold the jack better with multiple points of contact. The stock pickups are ok. A little bassier than I would prefer personally but nothing terrible about them.

To wire the new toggle, pots, and jack, I just put them upside down on the top of the body. I did have to enlarge the holes to fit the US pots.

Then you just feed them through the hole and push them into place to put the washer and nut on.

I did a second set on this body for the black one while the paint dries so I will just have to install it tomorrow. :)

Those are rookie numbers! I still see finish! You could put way more stickers on there!

Looking at it all stickered up with that bridge / tailpiece I suddenly wonder if a Mustang trem would fit on there nicely....

Are there any pickups you still want to try out? Those humbucker routes could accomodate almost anything.

ya know what would be perfect on this? recently me and my friends were talking about the old hookups skateboard decks and when you bought one, you got a sticker of the deck you just bought. just saying, might be worth trying to find one. also i assume you know about the old evangelion x hookups decks.

There are still gaps I am ashamed to admit. I need more small ones to fit in the empty spaces. I have too many round ones or large ones. :)

Pickup wise I don't know. I have recently been trying out Gibson ones. I do like Jim Root's newest signature pickup set, but I don't want to deal with a battery flopping around inside. LOL I am sure a mustang tremolo could fit, but it doesn't have a flat mounting surface to attach to. Bigsby would be easier possibly?

That does sound cool. I am a sucker for Evangelion.

Knobs are on, pickups are wired in, and the toggle is in place. I just need some pickup ring screws and humbucker screws to arrive along with the custom neck plates to get this finished.

FYI if any of y'all have little stickers you think should be on this, feel free to message me lol. Would be fun to fill in some of the empty spaces.

Are you going to paint the swoop's on the headstocks? I guess it's a way for Squier to justify the price difference between the different Starcasters but I think it really takes away from the design.

I suppose I could. Maybe paint it with some nail polish or something for fun?

I came up with this process to paint the swoosh. I made a paper template for the upper curve and taped off the side edge. Then I painted it with black acrylic.

Then when I went to sand off the bits over the edge, it just rubbed off.....

So red nail polish it is!
