Squier Affinity Starcaster Finished! Use your music as a weapon.

Post by HNB » Mon Jan 29, 2024 4:36 pm

I wanted one of these OLY bound ones for awhile but they are usually expensive used and I just didn't want to put out that much. michiqn over in Germany found me one and he does those killer graffiti paint jobs so I asked if he would grab it for me and paint it up. I was really fortunate that he was ok with me giving some ideas. I told him I wanted a bomber plane dropping guitars. This is what he did for me! (Note that the guitar bombs are OFFSETS!)

Re: Squier Affinity Starcaster (THE BOMB)

I am going to put a dirty fingers in the bridge and remove the neck pickup, toggle, and tone pot. I am updating the jack to a pure tone one and updating the volume pot and adding a treble bleed. It will be a rock machine! Also, I had to get a custom neck plate made for it....

Like Scole said, big Tom DeLonge energy. Dirty fingers are mental - I’ve played the epiphone TDL and that pick-up slams.

It is all done. Got the 500k CST pot installed with a treble bleed going to the pure tone jack. The neck plate turned out great! It sounds AWESOME. I am really happy with it.

Thank you! I am really impressed by these affinity Starcasters. I thought the neck was going to be bare wood feeling from pictures, but it has a nice finish on it. Only hardware I would upgrade are the tuners. The bridge and stop tail are fine and are a lot like ABR1 into the body. The stock pots in this were full sized FYI so they were probably fine, but I wanted to freshen it up and add a treble bleed and it was cheap enough just to rewire it. Normal pots height work fine in it. You don't need to get the taller shaft ones for them to work. I did have to enlarge the hole a bit carefully for the US pot to fit, but that was pretty easy.

I love the graphic. I haven't tried one of the affinity Starcasters yet, but I've tried both the Fender Modern Player and the Squier Classic Vibe models. Great guitars. Never played an original Starcaster. You own one, or did, right?

I have an original one and a Classic Vibe one. The finish in the classic vibe neck is way thicker and tinted. The vintage one is just amazing. Bigger body slightly and I love the vintage bridge which is basically a hard tail bridge on a raiser plate. :)

Thanks! I am really happy with how it turned out. When it comes to other people's art, normally try to avoid asking for it to be too specific to what I want and give them more freedom, but I really wanted the bomber and guitars. I know he likes stuff like that, so he probably didn't mind the request. I love how the bomb turned out. Turbo has used casset stencils for his guitars so it was inspired by his work combined with the bombing imagery on the front.
