Exploradora - Korina Reverse Jazzmaster

I was originally thinking of building a full-size Mustang but then a friend suggested a Cabronita Boracha. I have a Strat style neck, and a set of P90 Staple pickups (as opposed to Filtertrons). Then I realized I also have a slab of Korina/White Limba... add a TOM bridge and tailpiece and a set of VVT controls and you have The Exploradora.

Iā€™m thinking that will have to go on the rear control cavity.

Very cool name and nice project!

If getting more fret access in the high register is important for you, I would suggest to use the Jaguar outline as its horn translates into a more spacious cutaway whilst retaining the overall design.

Another element I would take into account is the location of the strap-button, if you put it on the upper cutaway, chances are that the you'll get neck dive.
A safest & more balanced place would be either on the back of the neck plate.

Keep us posted!

There is also the Duesenberg Falken that shows some similarities:

I didn't realize a Jaguar had a different horn... that makes sense. And I figure out the strap-buttons when the time comes.

Definitely similarities but not my taste.

Dusting off an old thread It has taken a while but I have finally gotten around to building this guitar. I'm in the final stages of deciding exactly where to place the pickup selector knob and I'm not really thrilled with the Fender/Duesenberg pickguards. I'm thinking of something more Explorer-inspired. Its still needs some tweaking but before I keep going I would like some input. What do you think of the direction... be honest.

That's an absolute "YES" for me. I love simple geometric shapes bouncing against the curves of the body for the pickguard. The only thing I would do would be to narrow the angle of the part that covers the lower horn a bit, so that it doesn't clash against the bottom curve.

yes exactly - make the angle of the bottom edge match the angle of the lower horn (i.e. the corner would move closer to the bridge pickup, almost touching it)

actually I dunno, maybe the original angle but moved back 5-6mm from the edge.

This is a similar concept I came up with a while back.
Using the Supersonic body shape rather than the full Jazzmaster shape.

I was playing with the paper and came to the same conclusion. I think I can just move it over. Still need to decide if I really like it. I might just cut out the guard and stick it on with double-sided tape. I did that with my Cabromaster and have never bothered screwing it to the body.
