Voting on Body Choice 70s inspired build

Post by MayTheFuzzBeWithYou » Wed Sep 21, 2022 2:09 pm

Hey, you all.

So, I have this Coronado II (Blocks & Binding) neck in my drawer for a while now and really want to use it somewhat soon (but I’m not in a hurry - just will be my next project). Got all the other parts, just missing body and pickguard (+some screws). Headstock will possibly be painted black and „Mighty Jag-Bacca“ would be a possible name that would fit the first two choices.

One option would be to build my own - this would possibly be a Thinline (Cateye „F“ Hole) - Full Scale Jag/Rickenbacker (and some other 60s/70s influences) mashup - not sure on a color yet - but no metallic (got 3 already).

I have some experience in assembling guitars but not (yet) in building them from start to finish. But my father has a CNC, my cousin is a carpenter and my best friend was on a luthier school (but doesn‘t work as such).

The other option would be to use an existing body.
Currently I have two offers:
An American Walnut Body (that I could pick up this weekend) for 200€, a Squier VM 3T Sunburst Body also for 200€ shipped from Germany

I see both to feature a Black Pickguard.
Never cared much for Rosewood in the past but like this particular look. So these would be 70s inspired. I already have two Sunburst guitars (Thinline Jag and Eastwood Sidejack) but one more wouldn‘t hurt.

The other option in my mind would be to wait for either a Black or 2T Sunburst body (or buy from Norrhwest UK - any experiences?) and probably put an Avantguard Tortoise Guard on it.

And the most budget friendly option would be to put it on my Firemist Gold Telemaster to complete the Rexter B&B trinity and sell (or keep) the Classic Lacquer Jazzmaster neck I currently have installed (which I like but don‘t see myself basing another build on it - purely aesthetically - as I prefer bound necks).

Poll runs for 3 days (the time I‘m in Vienna) - but the Squier body guy wants a decision tomorrow.

The Mighty Jag-Bacca gets my vote and interest.
Should make for a great build.
