Re: My New Offset Designs: Artemis & Apollo - Builds Coming
I had to wait a bit for my stainless steel neck screws to show up. No more waiting now though.
The age of Artemis is here.

Yes. It’s beautiful, it’s unique and yet familiar.
I’d go as far as to say if Dieter Rams were to design a guitar… and I mean that as the greatest possible compliment.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

Re: My New Offset Designs: Artemis & Apollo - Builds Coming
Thanks so much everybody!
I take this as the highest possible compliment. While I am an interior designer by day, I am an industrial designer in my heart. Dieter Rams is a god to me and his principles of good design are my ten commandments (I am also an iconoclast though, so am not afraid to break any and every one).
To the best of my abilities, I try to arrive at solutions to design problems that are as simple and elegant as possible. Always asking myself if there is a simpler solution to this tiny problem I'm trying to solve, that will also relate better to the vision for the whole.
---
I even have some ideas about that, in regards to the vibrato, that I will be experimenting with in the future. Some ideas, that I think could make for a better, simpler vibrato that eliminates a few common complaints with the classic unit. Mastery and Descendant have addressed some of these issues, in their own manners. I believe that theirs, are severely over-engineered solutions though. I still have to prove my ideas can work of course, and have lots of details to work out. It's also my belief, btw, that a vibrato that uses less material and has less parts to make/source and assemble, can perform better and cost less to make/be sold for a lower price.

I do still have that second prototype available. It just needs someone to give it a good finish.

I love this thread! These are honestly some of the best new designs that I've seen. They're fresh and unique, while threading the needle to still have a "classic" feel to them. Plus, taking a risk and creating something that's yours is big in my book. Thank you for sharing these with us.

Getting the setup dialed in and finally exploring these amazing vintage Univox UC2 pickups. This one (and Apollo 1) will be available eventually btw. I want to get photos of at least the first two of both Artemis and Apollo together in a group shot before they are separated.
These really are killer sounding, somewhere between a tele bridge and a strat pickup is where these live. They can do everything those other pickups can too. I estimate they are from ~1967 and cost me $30 plus S/H. They needed new covers and leads, but they are roaring away again now.

Looks great. Does this one have an onboard boost?ThePearDream wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:33 pmGetting the setup dialed in and finally exploring these amazing vintage Univox UC2 pickups. Yup. The boost circuit (up top) is a copy of the EQD Arrows (thematically appropriate for Artemis). There is a lot of potential for interaction between the volume knob, the boost knob, pedals and amp. Looking forward to seeing how people use it.

I turns out that The High Gain Podcast did a rundown of a 1965 Univox UC-2 a few years ago, if anyone is interested in hearing what these pickups sound like.
edit: only a few minutes of playing around minutes 7-10.

Re: My New Offset Designs: Artemis & Apollo - Builds Coming
The body for Artemis #2 arrived back from copaceticcustoms today. I'm super happy with how this combo of Shoreline Gold, roasted maple, and the black anodized guard look together.
I think I've been the most excited about this one. I ordered these pickups over a year and a half ago, so I could get the dimensions of the cutouts right. I'm looking forward to finally playing through them. I need to get a bridge and vibrato. Meanwhile, I'll do the shielding and wiring and rough in the nut.
