I love the little details, like how the Dually pickup is the same sensors in the same order as the S/S/S set. With a 5-way, that would be much more useful to me than S/S/S.

Re: Surprise! Custom Build for a Young Rockstar
The red/red dually never made sense to me personally. I have the blue/silver/red set in mine hooked up to a 10 way freeway switch and can confirm that the silver/red series combo is really good. And a silver near the bridge position can get pretty tele like too, which is nice.
I want the wiring in this one to be simpler than mine though. So it's getting a Tele Plus wiring scheme with a three-way lever and a mini toggle for the dually. I figure that if she wants to change the pickups later, an SH setup can give her some real versatility.
Also, this Hipshot hardtail bridge is a serious piece of hardware.

That's turning out really nice!!! I love the details as well. The differently colored 12th fret marker is something I really like!!! And yeah, Hipshot doesn't fuck around!!

Re: Surprise! Custom Build for a Young Rockstar
The body for the other one of these that I am making is pretty much done. It's getting a single humbucker (suggestions welcome), but I did a swimming pool rout to help cut weight since it's a really dense piece of wood. I'll be painting over the open ash grain with a fun color and making a bwb pickguard.

After checking my paint stash, here are the colors I'm considering.
Lobster:
Kiwi Light:
Telemagenta:
which I already used here to great results.

If you didn't already made that rad telegenta Apollo I would have vote for that, but I feel kiwi suits the blackguard better.
As efiug said, either of those colour will gonna look great.
Also, I love the headstock shape and 50s "Tadeo Gomez" style carve you've got on its back.
Quality work right there.

The grain is so cool. Especially the back
Would look great with a medium stain

I vote Lobster. Telemagenta is a bit of a statement, and you know her better than anyone here would, but a teenage guitar-playing girl likely has an opinion on pink guitars. You know the deal - toxic masculinity still runs rampant in the guitar world and some girls might not want to invite the additional attention of a gender-coded colour, as stupid as the situation may be. On the other hand, a more extroverted teenager might revel in it.
Kiwi Light looks like it would fit a Floyd-equipped Charvel better than a Performer. Lobster is loud and fits the 80's aesthetic perfectly IMO. I think all three would look good, though.

Re: Surprise! Custom Build for a Young Rockstar
Just so I'm clear, the main guitar that I'm building for this thread - the one for the young player- is a lightweight alder body and will be finished in a classic black nitro, with a matching black headstock and black hardware. This is getting the lace sensors in the tele plus configuration.
I'm also making an additional guitar for practice, as a hard rock/metal guitar, that I'll sell eventually. This is the dense ash body that I'll paint (likely Kiwi). I plan to match the headstock and do black hardware again. This will get a single Humbucker TBD and a volume on a black guard.

For the clinical metal vibe I get from the body, I think white with the black pg is your best bet. It should look like a medical instrument.

Kiwi and a single humbucker would definitely be a vibe.
