Which pickup should I use behind the bridge + how should I wire it?
Hey y'all,
I'm gonna have some extra cash soon, and one of the upgrades I wanna use that money for is to put a pickup behind the bridge of my guitar! However, I'm kinda torn on what to use. I was thinking I could use a Lace Alumitone because they are quite thin, but now I'm considering a thin Jazz-style humbucker or a lipstick. What do y'all think? As well, how should I wire it? I was thinking a simple switch so that I can turn it on and off very quickly while playing, but I've also seen people say a volume knob is better because it allows you to blend that pickup in, which could be interesting. Could it be possible to have both?
Thanks for the help!

You can wire it however you feel, mini switch and mini pot could be cool for controlling it.
I've always fancied one of these for behind the bridge but I just think they're a little steep price wise.

Also, the behind the bridge stuff comes out just fine through my rig currently so I think a pickup there could be a bit much for my use.
Definitely let us know how you get on

I’d consider a low profile Gold Foil for top-mounting.
Can you wire it to the rhythm circuit if you are using an offset?

Hmmmm that could be interesting! Unfortunately the foil would clash with the guitar, but the foil is removable I believe. And unfortunately, I don’t have a rhythm circuit on my guitar, so I’ll have to install a switch for it.Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 10:30 pmI’d consider a low profile Gold Foil for top-mounting.

Yea you make a good point, my bridge pickup is ridiculously hot so it can catch behind the bridge stuff, I’ll have to keep that in mind. That Submarine Pro looks super sick but you weren't kidding about the price! I'll still keep it in the back of my mind in case I do go through with this.GreenKnee wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 8:40 amYou can wire it however you feel, mini switch and mini pot could be cool for controlling it.

That's awesome. They look old. I love plastic from that era.

Another vote for a goldfoil style. They're very thing and usually surface mounted and there are enough people building them now that offer a choice in the foil color as well.

Oh damn, didn't know some manufacturers offer foils of different colours, thanks for letting me know, they look quite cool in silver! What size pickup would you recommend, would a Teisco-sized pickup fit?

You should be able to measure the space you have to fit the pick up into and then check the measurements on any of the builders sites. Most I've looked at provide measurement specs for their pickups.Vendetagainst wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 7:44 pmOh damn, didn't know some manufacturers offer foils of different colours, thanks for letting me know, they look quite cool in silver!
