Post by Chaz » Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:48 pm

What are some appropriate upgrade replacement pickups for a Bass 6?

What are your looking for? Or what do you consider appropriate?

Novak, Lollar, Creamery and quite a few other companies/people can wind you a wonderful set.

If you look at reverb there are currently two listings for Novak Bass VI pickup sets and those would probably be great.

Or, if you're in Europe, I highly recommend contacting Tiho of Q Pickups.

I'm looking for pickups that "work" in a Bass 6. a pickup for a P-bass would obviously not work, for obvious reasons. So right shape, right number of poles and stagger, winding, fit. Output choices would be nice. Off-the-shelf is cool.

we don’t know what model bass vi you have. so are you looking for the jaguar shaped pickups, or the earlier 61 style with the wide metal mounting rings? novak does both styles.

I have fender AVRI jaguar pickups in mine and it sounds great.

I wonder how Lace Alumitones would sound in a BassVI?

Jaguar pickups work properly. I have Novak Jag-V's in mine.

Any jaguar shaped pickups will work and there are plenty to choose from by Fender and Boutique makers.

If you want to modify you could route the body to accept strat style pickups which would give you more options.

I have a replica VI and have used JB Jr, and SD Hot Rails that fit with no modification. They were ok and gave a huge boost to the bridge position but I ultimately made a small route and am using a SD Invader pickup which has been my fav so far.

I bet the G&L MFD single coils that come in S-500s would sound cool with Bass VI strings/tuning

FYI: I was looking at those sets. One of them was stock Squier Bass VI pickups repackaged into a Novak box. I reported it to Reverb and messaged the seller. Both were ignored. If you bought them just know you got scammed.

Reverb doesn't seem to care so long as they get their cut. The (other) sad part is that the buyer will doubtless claim that they sound better than the stock Squier pickups.
