What separates a Jazzmaster from a Jazzblaster?

Post by hulakatt » Sun Jun 19, 2022 7:41 am

Where's the line? Or is it more of a gradual transition? Is a Blaster just a Master with humbuckers? Simplified wiring? What say you?

I'm building something near the middle and feel unsure how I should refer to it. Kinda small and maybe a bit pretty but still.

Seeing as it's a Lee Ranaldo invention then really the definition would/should be a Jazzmaster with Wide Range Humbuckers.

I've seen people call a JM with normal humbuckers a blaster but I think that's incorrect.

What about the wiring? Does it need to be stripped down or can a Jazzblaster enjoy the rhythm circuit as well?

I really don't think a "Jazzblaster" is a whole class of objects. I believe it's literally just when Lee Renaldo put WRHB's in a Jazzmaster. You can copy that idea and call is a Jazzblaster if you want, I guess. But at least as far as I know (and as a 10 plus year OSG veteran, it's hard to imagine it being a thing without me knowing. I mean, this is just like so niche) it's not like a "chopper" motorcycle or a "hot rod" car.
If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

i still consider a jagmaster as any jaguar/jazzmaster shaped guitars with a hardtail/strat trem. i consider a jazzblaster as a jazzmaster with widerange pickups. by my definition, my main drop d guitar is a jazzmasterblaster
