Seymour JB vs. DiMarzio Super Distortion?
I need a pair of pickups in my Mustang build, and I've narrowed it down to either the JB or Super Distortion - but I can't decide which . I'm looking for more midrange and good response to distortion, since I run a RAT, occassionally with EQ and comp.

Both will be fine and both pair really well with a PAF type in the neck.
Having said that, I am going to throw a different contender into the ring, simply because my experience with their pickups have been amazing and I don't hear enough discussion about them.
I recommend the Planet Tone Full Throttle. The pickup takes gain exceptionally well and still manages to retain clarity of the notes being played. They also follow the SD color code.

My favorite bridge humbucker has always been a super distortion. It has a wonderful sound and handles overdrive and distortion great.

Super Distortions screwed nice and low against the body are some of my favorite humbucker sounds. You'll never run out of push but (and I think this is a ceramic mag thing) it's not at the expense of the top end.
They're far from a one-trick pony.

I prefer the SD. Lots of people would say JB. Depends what tone you’re after.
I find the JB is more abrasive, it’s like the USA/5150 sound. The SD is smoother & is more Marshall-y to me.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

I like the JB better since it subjectively has more definition and less abrasive treble and it seems to fit perfectly into anything - it is the bridge humbucker I judge all the other humbuckers againt both have plenty of midrange, but JB seems more focused. I love Dimarzio SDs too, they are awesome, but if I had to pick one, I would probably end up with the JB.

My Tele-Gib had the JB and I stand by it.Kinx wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 12:22 pmI like the JB better since it subjectively has more definition and less abrasive treble and it seems to fit perfectly into anything - it is the bridge humbucker I judge all the other humbuckers againt both have plenty of midrange, but SD seems more focused.
